Five Friday Facts: St. Paddy’s Day 2017!

I was thinking of what five fun, Friday facts to post today – so, here’s my St. Patrick’s Day edition!

1. My maternal great-great-great-grandmother was of Irish descent, as was my paternal great-great-great-great-great-grandmother…so, the mitochondrial DNA on both sides clinches it!

2. I only have one tattoo – my first (and only, so far) is a Róisín Dubh. I love the Thin Lizzy song of the same name, obviously!

3. I’m a natural redhead who, thankfully, doesn’t suffer from pasty, freckled skin. I do use a higher SPF than others who share the same ethnicity and natural hue as I, though! My hair looks very, very, VERY dark brown, most days. In the summertime, when I relax in the sunshine and let my dreadlocks hang freely, the dark auburn highlights come forth and shine brightly. That, along with the fact that dyeing one’s hair needlessly exposes it to harsh chemicals, is why I quit dyeing my hair in my mid-20s. If your hair is like straw, you’ve most likely screwed it up permanently for the sake of stupid, silly vanity! Age has nothing to do with hair health…just sayin’.

4. “Irish-American” whites hate me – but nearly every person from “the Eire,” face-to-face, have been quite open, honest, and genuine. (On a side note, I prefer speaking with people in person, since it is really the only way that I’m able to successfully communicate with others. Face-to-face interactions make it far easier to determine how honest any individual is, IMHO!)

5. Ireland has always been one of the countries on my “must-visit” list, for as long as I can remember! Some parts of the world “call” to me louder than others do. Ireland’s voice isn’t as loud as the ones from Ghana, the Ivory Coast, or Somalia, but it is far louder than the voices from New Zealand or Japan! Don’t bother me with any assumptions on that…if you can’t relate, then kindly STFU.

With that, here are five fun, Friday songs to really get the weekend started with a bang! Happy St. Paddy’s Day, dear readers – be sure to check out my epic gameplay on my Twitch channel, as this weekend will be devoted to shameless laziness and hedonism as my birthday approaches!

Sunday Scenery…And a Bit o’ Silliness!

This was worth a re-post, with a bit of edu-ma-cation tossed into the mix. Also, be sure to check out my Twitch channel for live-streamed broadcasts of my gaming sessions…enjoy!

Eyrie Of An Aries

I was doing some tests with my new computer, seeing how well it handles my hard-core gaming needs, and I finally got it to crash! No, I didn’t kill it, but I have gotten it to completely freeze up where it required a “forced hard reboot,” which sounds worse than it actually is. I’m so hard on equipment…I demand far more of things that I own than people – but, I also have high expectations of myself, and expect things that I purchase to function to their maximum capability…and beyond!

I was successful with recording a gaming session, but only once – I didn’t download the clip because there wasn’t anything worth saving in it, LOL – but broadcasting a live gaming session caused a “freezing-crash,” multiple times, after about one minute. Either my video settings are too high, or I haven’t located where to adjust them – or, its…

Soggy Saturday!

It is sprinkling lightly outside right now, but has been raining since late afternoon. There was a brief respite from the precipitation yesterday – the sun was actually out in the morning! Shocking to see at the height of the “rainy season,” but certainly welcome. Temperatures here have only varied by five degrees between the daytime and nighttime hours since the end of October; that finally changes this week when the lows get down to all of 45F, while the highs stay in the mid-50s. Hopefully it will cool down enough to kill the algae that have stalled the crabbing season!

I’m missing out on delicious Dungeness, which I usually consume while watching football games – and having a nice dish of fresh, steamed crab would have made the Huskies win during yesterday’s Apple Cup that much sweeter! The “big Dawgs” destroyed the mangy Cougars 45 – 17, and I was pleased to see it happen. I always support my purple and gold! At least my football teams are doing well; the Huskies won handily, and the Seahawks have made a good, strong showing so far – I’m hoping that they keep up what they’re doing! Some trades made this week by the Mariners have me shaking my head in disbelief yet again, so MLB’s Spring Training will be something that I watch a little closer than usual – I want to see if those trades were well-made, or if the manager is just throwing darts at trade options and hoping for a hat-trick! So many players who have been traded out end up on teams that win the World Series, while the Ms still struggle to grab that golden ring! Now that the Cubs finally ended their drought, will it be 50 years before the Ms do anything worthwhile? Time will tell…

I’m behind on my NaNoWriMo word-count, but not feeling bad over it. Remember when I said that the local utility district did well with clearing out dead trees and branches before the storms hit? Well, that was true – there have been no power outages related to the weather, at least here…but, there was an outage yesterday that was solely caused by some moron in a pickup truck taking out a power-pole. The idiot must have been “pulling an Anthony,” since he missed a turn in the road that is easy to navigate if you’re actually paying attention to said road, and the road wasn’t wet. The accident happened around 2 p.m., but the power was taken off at 5:15 p.m. for the repairs to be made. I’d say that the power was out for a good 12 hours, so that cut into my writing time considerably! Typing by the light of a candle or kerosene-burning hurricane lantern is doable, but the smoke from the candles and lantern build up after a while. So, it was the perfect time to cuddle, snuggle, and spoon, and then catch up on sleep that has been lost since starting this NaNo challenge! My brain on overdrive causes horrible insomnia and makes me grouchy; combine that with being around family after the election and before the holidays, well…suffice to say, it isn’t a recipe for positivity! So, the blogging award that I was going to post will be deferred until I complete the NaNo challenge. I’m still prioritizing, but the likelihood of getting to that 50K word-count in four days is pretty slim. Good thing I didn’t bother buying any of the merchandise declaring myself a “NaNo Winner!” At the very least, I can give myself an “A” for effort and following the “honor system” of the challenge. I read the rules and stuck to them, and didn’t ask a soul for assistance. I think that’s pretty damned good, right there!

Time for some weekend music…enjoy!

A Tale of Computer Techs

So, here’s the continuing saga of my computer issues and attempting to deal with techs who can’t (or won’t) fix what’s going on. If your eyes bleed at the sight of profanity, you might want to stop reading right now!

Recapping what has happened so far:

I had a “Franken-puter” rig, probably 6 years old, that finally gave up the ghost back in August. Before that it was showing signs of imminent failure, much like a vehicle that has too many miles under its wheels. I got my data retrieved, including many travel photos, in-game screen-shots, and tons of documents which include drafts of short stories and my in-progress, nearly completed, autobiography. I requested another all-in-one rig which could do everything that my old one did, as I enjoy gaming and wanted to continue recording gaming sessions, as well as scheduling live-streams of my game-play on evenings and some weekends. Unfortunately, the new rig has some issue, either with the CPU, the GPU, or a combination of both. The lame excuse given to me was: “Oh, it must be an issue with the Plays.TV program…some people have had problems using it, so we’ll do some research.” The only thing their so-called research came up with were issues that some people had – back in February of 2015. The issues with in-game recording, for me, started right after I brought the new rig home – in August of this year, just three months ago – so Plays.TV isn’t the issue. So, the next excuse was, “Oh, just download Open Broadcasting Software (OBS) – that should work.” I said, “Wait a second…you can’t tell me why that program isn’t working, so you want to download something else that isn’t going to function properly? Something that will just cause MORE issues?!?” Their response: “Well, it’s always good to have options…” I said, “The only option I will be happy with is you solving the problem, not compounding it!” My comment appeared to go in one ear and out the other, no matter how many times I reiterated my desire for them to fix the internal issue of the computer.

Also, I noted that the components that I’d specifically requested to be installed hadn’t been used, supposedly due to the cost of the two components. The components that I desired, specifically, were the Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6500 3.2 GHz processor, and the NVidia GeForce GTX 950 graphics card (2GB, GDDR5, 3.0). I was originally going to settle for a GTX 750, but the 950 is superior, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. At any rate, according to the computer techs, both components cost $1k – and that figure is complete and utter bullshit! Cost of the CPU I listed? $205. Cost of the GPU? $190. Where in the ever-living FUCK does the price of $1K come in? My math might not be perfect, since I barely passed basic Algebra back in high school, but seriously…I know for a fact that 205 + 190 doesn’t even come CLOSE to 1,000! Hell, it doesn’t even come close to HALF of 1,000, which is 500 – so where the hell do they come up with such an exorbitant figure? Even some of the better gaming rigs out there can be bought for as low as $850, with the exact same components I listed, so…? I’m not sure what type of scam they’re running at that shop, but I’m definitely not pleased. Then again, there are a lot of business owners and operators out there, who convince themselves that their customers are blithering idiots or complete morons who know nothing. So charming to discover that these jackasses think that way about me! It isn’t the first time that it’s happened in my life, and probably won’t be the last – so don’t be surprised when I say that I prefer to buy things online, LOL!

So, as we speak, the hubster has gone to “the ‘Couv” to see if he can speak to them and get some resolution for this issue, because I’m done. I hate speaking to people who refuse to listen, and mindlessly repeat themselves whilst offering nothing. It’s annoying as hell, I can tell you that! We’ll see if anything is done today, or if I just have to purchase my rig online and get a separate, external hard-drive for my documents and other stuff. Stay tuned for the next part (or end of) this vile, foul saga!

In the meantime – music!

Short Sunday Post!

Well, we survived the weekend storms! The blast that was supposed to hit us yesterday moved a bit northward, so the greater Seattle area was affected more than we were. No loss of power here (yet – still keeping fingers crossed, LOL), but the lights did flicker intermittently throughout the day. The trees were whipping about in the sideways rain, and there was another small bout of thunder and lightning after midnight. Otherwise, it appears that the worst of the winds have passed. I’ll head down to the beach later today and see if I can get some decent pictures of the surf – I love the way the ocean looks and sounds after stormy weather.

Believe it or not, the full moon was actually visible for a brief moment last night, as well! It was lovely…clouds scudding past gave it a mysterious, magical appearance – very nice.

Time to catch up on reading the blogs I follow…and, I have to bookmark various sites on this backup computer! I have no idea when I’ll be able to get my main rig up and running again – I’m pretty much accepting the fact that the only computer that will function properly is one that I build myself, with my favored components and to my specifications. Wasting money on so-called “experts” who really can’t tell their rectal orifices from a hole in the ground is an exercise in futility – and I hate wasting time and money! Aries people don’t surrender…we just stop wasting our time on people and things that are, essentially, worthless.

Here’s a bit of music to enjoy while I relax with my coffee and read. Also, I plan on doing some live-streaming tests later on today; most likely after 1300 PDT. Yes, it is still Daylight Savings Time…we don’t “fall back” until the first Sunday in November. I’m sure that we will be happy for that “extra” hour after Election Day, LOL!

I will resume my regular re-blogging tomorrow – today is all about me! I’m still prepping for NaNoWriMo, too…I’ve been properly prioritizing.

😎

Storms On the Shore!!!

Hey all! Sorry for the late post, but unstable weather has been causing minor issues with the electricity. Also, my computer has been giving me a hassle, which is what frustrated the hell out of me yesterday – dealing with the computer techs has been a major exercise in futility! They refuse to acknowledge that there is some flawed component in my computer, which is causing the crashing and freezing issues I experience while gaming – whether I attempt to record a gaming session or live-stream, or not. I’m currently using what is supposed to be our ‘backup’ computer, and it’s running far better than mine is! Guess what? It even records and streams gaming sessions just fine – so there is obviously an issue in my main rig.

I was all ready to post a spleen-venting, expletive-filled, post of hatred towards condescending douchebags…but, waking up to the sound of thunder this morning soothed my mood. I will do a post about my ineffective dealings with the computer techs, but will try to do so in an amusing way! I’ve been inspired by a couple of bloggers who inject much humour in their writings and posts, and wanted to try to put a funny spin on something that has been exceptionally annoying and frustrating. I do my best to have backup plans in case things go wrong…it helps to be prepared for any possible eventuality.

The morning thunderstorms were very nice to wake up to…although, I understand that while I was enjoying the flashes of lightning and feeling, and hearing, the roll of thunder, the coastal town of Manzanita, down in Oregon, had a fairly sizeable tornado! The remnants of a typhoon are the cause, to my knowledge. Still, I love thunderstorms and wild weather…I’m what you would call a ceraunophile, LOL!

The wind is starting to kick up again, so I’ll keep this post short and sign off. It’s going to be a wild weekend! Hopefully the power stays on…I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Also, I hope that I can get some nice shots of the ocean after tomorrow’s storm blows through! The waters will look awesome, I think; I stepped out on the porch earlier, after everything had finally calmed down, and just listened to the roaring of the ocean…it was nice.

Also, I wanted to note that tomorrow is the night of the Hunter’s Full Moon (in Aries, no less!), as well as the Perigean Spring Tide…the overcast skies will prevent me from seeing the moon, but its effects are definitely being felt!

3 Saturday Songs…

Just some songs for Saturday…these are where my thoughts turn when I hear some ignorant asshole saying “take my country back” and “make America great again” – these and other travesties are what they seem to desire.

Meanwhile, I’m going to catch up on reading some blogs…and, I was just nominated for another award! I’ll be busy for a few hours – see you all later!

Blog Awards!

The Sunshine Blogger Award has a list of questions to address. With that out of the way…here we go!

First, the rules:

1. Write a post to show your award. (done)

2. Acknowledge the blogger(s) who nominated you. (done)

3. Give a brief story of why you started blogging.
Well, this WP blog is essentially the third blog that I’ve started in the past 15 years. With dedication and determination, it has also been the most successful one, and the longest-lasting! I began blogging to keep an online journal of my thoughts, feelings, and musings in general. Various things in life kept interrupting me in writing my autobiography, so my blogs were, and are, my way of keeping my writing skills fresh and up-to-date.

4. Give advice to your fellow bloggers.
I have no advice to give, as it appears that the majority of my fellow bloggers do much better with connecting and networking than I do – so, my advice isn’t needed!

5. Nominate five bloggers for the award(s) – note that you cannot nominate the person or persons who nominated you!
I have done so, in my own unique way! If you notice the 10 re-blogs that preceded this post, you will see who my nominees are. It’s an easier way to do this, in light of the fact that many blogs that I follow are ‘award-free.’ This is my way of acknowledging their awesomeness, while still honoring their ‘award-free’ status!

😎

6. Answer the questions that you were given, and ask 10 questions of your nominees.

Questions posed:

1. What turns you on the most?
Uh, what? I don’t understand this question…

2. What turns you off the most?
See answer to question #1.
🙄

3. How many real friends do you have?
Two, if I don’t count my immediate family or significant other!

4. Are you in school? What are you studying/ what did you study?
No, I’m not currently in school / college / university.

5. What are you most afraid of?
Fear – namely, the fears that others have which cause them to do abhorrent things to their fellow human beings.

6. Do you believe in God?
Which one?
😉

7. Say something about environmental sanitation:
“Something,” LOL. J/K. In all seriousness, I do my best to live with as small a footprint as possible. I use no pesticides or weed-killers, outdoors or in, and love seeing all of the critters that inhabit my yard – yes, even the slugs and snails!

8. What is the best gift you’ve received / would like to receive?
The best gift that I’ve received is my son. He is the only good thing that came out of my first marriage.

9. Water, wine, or vodka?
All of the above!

10. Best food?
I love sushi – I crave it daily!

I have no questions to ask at the moment – if I have a question of a fellow blogger, I will go to their blog and ask them there! Happy Friday / Saturday, everyone…I hope that your day and weekend is going well!

Convention Bound!

Short post today, LOL – just enough time to at least acknowledge the beginning of a new month, marked by a New Moon and the annular solar eclipse.

I’m almost packed and ready to go…I’m going to be at the PAX West 2016 gaming convention, being held in Seattle, Washington, through the Labor Day holiday. Filled with anticipation, excitement – and a bit of anxiety, simply because of the crowds. I don’t like crowds much at all, but can manage them when attending an event such as a concert or a motorcycle / classic car rally. Concerts are easier, since most people are concentrating on the band and the music – not their fellow concert-goers. I’ve never been at a major convention such as Comic-Con or Sakura-Con, so I only have the pictures that others take to know what to expect!

I’m hoping to get some sweet swag related to the online game that I play – The Elder Scrolls Online – and, I’m looking forward to some of the events scheduled, like Q & A for some of the designers and developers; a Twitch broadcast, meeting other gamers, and hanging out in general.

Time to finish getting things together…I’ll be taking plenty of pictures; hopefully I’ll figure out how to get them downloaded from my phone! I shall return – later, ‘gators!
