Random February Ramblings…February 2014

It’s a nice, relaxing day – I was doing some work around the house and took a break, so I figured I’d jot down some random thoughts and upcoming topics. It is high noon and “beer-thirty,” so wander with me a while, won’t you?

First off, it is February, which has been designated as “African-American History Month” or just “Black History Month.” I am working on a long post about that, which will be published by the end of the month since I’m still doing some research – but it will be worth the wait!

February means that spring is just around the corner…well, actually, that depends on your location! Here in the Pacific Northwestern corner of the USA, it’s been positively balmy and mild. Sure, we’ve had a little bit of blustery weather and a couple of decent snowfalls (snow on the coastal beaches is beautiful, by the way), but nothing compared to the deep freeze back east and in the deep south, or the storms hammering the UK and other parts of Europe! We have some clouds moving in at the moment, due to a system coming in off of the Pacific Ocean, but the sun was shining beautifully this morning and flowers are starting to bloom on some of the bushes. I love it when the wind kicks up and I can hear the ocean roaring when I open the windows or doors! It will be a wet spring and a beautiful summer, from what I can see. If the wind and rain keep kicking up, I have a feeling that March will roar in like a lion!

Injustice, again, in the state of Florida – isn’t it sad to not be surprised by bullshit like that? A panel of stupid people deadlocked on whether or not Michael Dunn of Jacksonville, Florida, acted in self-defense when he murdered 17-year-old Jordan Davis. Remember, Mr. Dunn was the instigator when he walked up to that Dodge Durango in that parking area and demanded that the teenagers inside turn down their music. Mr. Dunn lied when he said that the youths had a gun. He fired 10 rounds in all, 9 directly into the vehicle – the 10th shot was fired AFTER HE STEPPED OUT OF HIS OWN CAR AS THE SUV WAS IN MOTION. There should have been no question that he was guilty on all five counts, but morons in this country believe that when a Black person is murdered, that person must have brought it on themselves – regardless of the situation. Just like Jordan Davis, Trayvon Martin, Rekia Boyd, Oscar Grant III, Renisha McBride, Marshall Coulter…the list goes on. It is virtually impossible for Black people to get true justice in this country. We are constantly and consistently vilified, dehumanized, minimized, and marginalized – it’s disgusting. This idiotic comment from this Al-Jazeera article says it all:

“Clay Hickman
Michael Dunn is another idiot that has abused the right to self-defense. I will use deadly force when my family is threatened but I KNOW what a real threat is. A bunch of wanna be teenage thugs with their ground pounding thug music is NOT a threat. I’m white and listen to rap and hip-hop but I don’t turn it up loud enough to piss off everybody in the area. Teach young black men to respect everybody, white, black, men, women, and themselves.”

…note how the commenter states that only “young black men” need to “respect everybody” but no other group is given the same directive – also, the telling usage of the term ‘thug’ illustrates the hateful stereotypes the ‘concern troll’ has chosen to use to demonstrate how ‘inclusive’ and ‘progressive’ they are…FUCK that racist nonsense!

More needs to be done about addressing that issue, not spouting off ridiculous, phony statistics about crime rates and so-called “Black-on-white crimes.” In fact, there is some new online movement of whites who claim that there is an upsurge in ‘retaliatory crimes’ where Black people are randomly attacking whites anywhere and everywhere. There is some WordPress site called ‘Violence Against Whites – the fallen’, which I have no intention of linking here whatsoever, but it is easy to find! Talk about recycled bullshit – there is plenty there.

No, I see the reality so I see otherwise – I mean, the white guy who got shot in the movie theatre in Florida was murdered by another white guy, who happened to be a retired police captain, over a fucking TEXT MESSAGE and THROWN POPCORN. I’m shaking my fucking head over that one…and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. On a side note, I’ve been working on a post about guns and concealed weapons permits, since I recently obtained my CPLs. Stay tuned for that one to be published!

I’ll be glad when Putin’s Bazaar of Bigotry the Olympics is over – the Winter Olympics might as well be called the “All-White Games” or “Nazis on Ice,” no? Oh, sure, there is a smattering of darker-hued individuals this time around, including the ever-present Jamaican bobsled team that inspired the crappy movie “Cool Runnings.” Remember the sister from France who was a dynamite figure skater? Reports on her always had a negative tone to them – she would be described as “arrogant” or “cold” on a regular basis, while her talent was minimized. The women’s U.S. bobsled team has some Black female participants, and one of the male U.S. speed-skaters is Black. Funny how people find a reason to dismiss Black athletes who participate in cold-weather sports! Speaking of the Olympics, everyone knows that these games were bought and paid for by Putin. Russian corruption is notorious, so why are people acting surprised over the shoddy conditions of hotels and other facilities? Newsflash, people: just because a country is all-white, doesn’t mean that it’s superior, progressive, or ‘safe’ – Eastern Europe and a majority of the former S.S.R.s are some of the most backwards, crime-ridden, dangerous places on earth. I mean, all you have to do is take a look at what’s going on in Kiev, Ukraine right now to see what those people are like!

Winged Twilight in Morrowind

Subject switch: My husband and I purchased The Elder Scrolls: Anthology; it contains all of the Elder Scrolls games, including Skyrim, and all expansions of all of them. I love the maps that came with the set! They’re always nicely detailed, making it easy to follow the roads between the towns. I always like taking the scenic route so I can get my skills up by fighting monsters or assisting NPCs, and oftentimes, you can find interesting things along the way. Anyway, trying to play the first two installments was tedious at best – they are Arena and Daggerfall, respectively. After fumbling around with them and getting killed by rats, we have been pleasantly surprised by Morrowind, which is Elder Scrolls III. Even though the graphics are dated (similar to Half-Life), the game has enough challenges and puzzles to keep us as entertained as Skyrim has – it will be interesting to see what Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is like! I’d forgotten how intensively and extensively detailed certain things were, particularly in the spellcasting department – needing to have certain reagents and equipment on your person for alchemical needs, for example. Gamewise, the graphics made a quantum leap between Daggerfall and Morrowind, so seeing the shift between Oblivion and Skyrim will be the final comparison. On a final note, I’m pleased to see that the Redguard character has been dark-skinned from the beginning of the series…it is definitely the first game I’ve played that has the option of being a darker-skinned person, with realistic skin-tones. It would be nice to have more variety of hairstyles, though – especially longer dreadlocks or Afros for the women!

I’m looking forward to seeing Neil deGrasse Tyson hosting the new Cosmos – I used to watch it back when Carl Sagan hosted it on PBS; I hope that it doesn’t get bastardized by FOX, but I’m certain that Mr. Tyson will do an excellent job…he’s brilliant!

Last but not least, I was saddened to hear of the death of yet another DEVO member, Mr. Bob Casale. He joins fellow bandmate Alan Meyers, who passed away in June of 2013. Rest in peace, good sir…the music you made kept me moderately sane during my ‘teens-ages.’ The link about Mr. Meyers has my five favourite DEVO songs in it, so enjoy them while you research the band and their contributions to the socio-political music scene.

Saddened, Sickened, & Not Surprised At All…

So, the expected verdict of “not guilty” was returned yesterday. How nice. A racist murderer gets to walk away and live his life. He even gets the murder weapon back. Isn’t that special? A violent criminal gets to live his life. A batterer of women gets to continue his pattern of domestic violence. A murderer was set loose in society yesterday, and he gets to keep his murder weapon. That’s the biggest thing right here, so I’ll repeat it:

Trayvon’s parents were insulted yet again; not only that, they were slapped soundly on both cheeks. They’ve been collectively insulted by the media and reporters, and the fucktards on FauxNews. Trayvon himself was insulted over and over again following his death, by cretinous arseholes who wanted to assassinate his character just as much as Zimmerman assassinated his body – this injustice was the final, ultimate insult to him. Now his parents have been insulted by the community they live in and the country that they’re citizens of. The so-called ‘justice system’ failed them miserably; it isn’t the first time an incident like this has happened in this country, and it won’t be the last. It’s sickening, sad, and very unfortunate.

I haven’t looked at any websites other than my blog this morning, and I don’t care to – but I know that I will. I don’t want to see the lies being disseminated and passed off as truths, and I don’t have any patience for racist shitbags and attention-seeking trolls commenting everywhere. Maybe later, but not right now. From what I’ve heard, there have been (and will continue to be) marches and demonstrations. So far, cooler heads have prevailed, although minor incidents of vandalism and arson occurred in Oakland, California immediately following the verdict. I honestly believe that they were started by whites and latinos (and even some Black people) who want to see some “good, old-fashioned rioting” to give credibility to outdated, racist stereotypes. Why they do this is known only to them…I’m not going to speculate over insanity. I hope that Black people everywhere are resisting the taunts and outrageous bullshite that race-baiting fuckwads are undoubtedly spewing, but I’m sure that inane arguments are occurring on certain sites in the blogosphere. It’s so tiresome – people could be utilizing their time far more wisely, but they seem to be obsessed with being REACTIVE, not PROACTIVE. Boring, redundant time-wasters who think that arguing with racist trolls in the comment sections of blogs is making a damned bit of difference! Ye gawds…

I’m heartsick this morning and a little bit depressed. I knew that this would happen – but I still have feelings. I feel for Trayvon’s parents. As a mother, I can’t fathom what it’s like to lose a child; it’s impossible to conceive what it’s like to have that precious life stolen by the hands of another. People grant massive amounts of sympathy to those parents who lost children at Sandy Hook Elementary, yet refuse to see the similarities between that tragedy and this. People rate the value of human lives as if they’re rating the value of a classic car, a diamond, a Rolex watch, or some other object that’s been deemed ‘worthy.’

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Things like this make me wonder why retired Black police officers won’t start training others so that we can have ‘Black-only’ police departments and first responders. I sure would have liked to see at least one PoC as a member of the EMTs who responded to our accident; at least they (more or less) treated my fiancée well, but I can’t say that I’m pleased with the way that I was virtually ignored, even after I spoke up. With that in mind, here’s my first direct blast:

THE COWLITZ COUNTY (WA) FIRE DEPARTMENT AND FIRST RESPONDER TEAMS (EMTs) ARE NEO-NAZI TRASH WHO REFUSE TO PROVIDE TREATMENT TO NON-WHITES. COWLITZ COUNTY (WA) IS FULL OF INBRED, WHITE-TRASH METH-ADDICTS AND HEROIN JUNKIES. I firmly believe that a tweaker was driving the car that nearly caused us to be killed last week, and I’m certain that the foul cunt is walking free today – hell, she probably gave the EMTs a blowjob and they partied down afterwards!

We know that we won’t get true justice in this racist society, so it seems logical to start training and ‘policing’ ourselves. We know that we get unequal treatment in hospitals and doctors’ offices, so it seems logical to learn CPR and general first aid, as well as REAL medical training: not the inadequate shite offered by Everest, Heald, Carrington and other ‘colleges’ that only advertise on television during daytime talk-shows. Something’s gotta give – either you’re content with the status quo and will sit and do nothing, or you will act and use your anger and grief to move mountains. What’s your choice?

If you wish to do something proactive, I have a few suggestions. If you’re in the USA, do some research on the city, county, and state in which you reside. Get involved in local politics and learn all you can, because it’s obvious that we need more representation in the political world. We need serious contenders. We need our own political party. We need people who won’t be afraid to stand up to the cults of the NRA and the ‘mega-churches.’ Colion Noir, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Melissa Harris-Perry aren’t cutting the mustard, and neither are the ‘Black RethugliKKKans’ who have accepted being tokens for FauxNews. If you think that any good can come of it, contact your local and regional representatives. Write to your congressman. Write to the President of the U.S. Don’t react to the clueless arseholes who want to bait you – put them on ‘ignore’ and go about your business. Use the anger you feel at this gross miscarriage of justice and be proactive! And don’t forget to show your loved ones how you feel – take time to appreciate the people in your life who mean the most to you. You never know when they will be taken from you.

Casual Observations…

It’s another beautiful day, so put off mowing the shaggy, overgrown lawn yesterday. I will get to it soon; I’d seen a tiny, green frog in the grass a couple of days ago, and I didn’t want to disturb the little critters…so, let it grow, let it grow, let it grow! It can wait for the next sunny spell of weather. We have a resident dragonfly, too – it was darting about the yard, hunting…hope it’s getting those pesky mosquitoes and fruit flies. I’m sure that the tadpoles cut down on the mosquito population just a little bit; there haven’t been any larvae in the frog pond. If the weather stays like it is now, I’ll get it done before my fiancée gets back from Porkland. He had to pick up some articles like our repaired leathers and a push-mower, so I’ve been able to get more housecleaning done.

Speaking of critters, the bear made a small encore yesterday, after surprising me a few days ago. He was wandering around the outside of the fence, near the little greenhouse at the back of the property – probably after the salmon-berries that are beginning to show. Can’t wait until they’re ripe! We also hadn’t seen the deer since the day they were peacefully browsing a couple of weeks ago; some douchebag had chased after them in a vehicle and frightened them away, and that pissed me off! Fucktards always disturb the peace and tranquility wherever they go…it’s annoying. That changed yesterday, as we saw a doe with new, twin fawns! They were probably two weeks old, cute little things with spots – they were in a yard just around the corner from ours; across the way and two houses down from our streetside mailbox. Also, a lone doe browsed in the yard next door for a couple of hours, not long after we spotted the one with the fawns. It stood on its hind legs to forage in the trees…damnit, I simply must get those cameras!

The Seattle Mariners won the first game of three against the Houston Astros yesterday, after losing the 4-game series to the damn Yankees. The Ms won the first game against the Yanks, but let the next three slip through their fingers – it was disappointing. I was glad that Hisashi Iwakuma pitched well and that the bats were hot; a pitcher can’t win a baseball game solo, any more than a quarterback in football can win a game all by his lonesome. The bats need to come alive, more so, at the proper time…leaving men stranded on base seems to be an Achilles heel for the Mariners!

I’m definitely relaxed today…I have a couple of posts on the back burner, but they can wait. Just because I’m not in “bitchy bitchington” mode, doesn’t mean that I’m not aware of pertinent things going on in the multiverse. One doesn’t need to be in constant “full on” to be taken seriously, and it’s a shame that few share this viewpoint. For instance, it appears that Trayvon Martin’s murder, the murder trial against George Zimmerman, is going to take place – I guess that people figure he’ll get away with it so there’s no reason to discuss it. Anybody with a brain can see that Zimmerman is guilty of murder, and one could easily argue that it was premeditated. This is a major deal, but few people are discussing it. They would rather get bent out of shape over some fucktard at a Papa John’s in Sanford, Florida, leaving a racist rant on the voice mail of a Black customer. This is the same township where Zimmerman murdered Trayvon Martin, in the same state where Michael Dunn murdered a Black youth named Jordan Davis over loud music, so why is anyone surprised? I can’t boycott Papa John’s because I never ate there in the first place – they’ve never gotten a dime from me before this incident, and they certainly never will – but me not spending my money somewhere doesn’t make a lick of difference to anybody but me. Other people still eat there; last I heard, Papa John’s was doing just fine.

The recent storms in the Midwest apparently took the lives of former Stormchaser stars. Um, if you chase dangerous storms, you could end up dead – it’s not rocket science. Interesting thing to note, people have been far less cruel about their deaths than, say, the unfortunate and accidental death of ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Steve Irwin. People are very selective about who they choose to criticize and why!

I recently saw a story on this blog here, and noted that the Huffington Post finally decided to say something about it:

“Turkish riot police fired volleys of teargas canisters into Istanbul’s Taksim Square, centre of protests against Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, driving thousands into narrow side streets, witnesses said.

Police and water cannon vehicles advanced across the square, entirely clearing the north side after a day of skirmishes that had defied the authorities’ efforts to restore full control.”

I guess it’s all to do with the power of Twitter and ‘social media!’ Basically, if you’re not hooked up with Facebook and everything that links with / to it, then nothing you say will get noticed by anyone. Even if it is, it will be very selective: it must be deemed worthy by someone who has been named as an ‘expert!’

I also heard about some guy who leaked ‘sensitive material’ about the NSA, and people are up in arms about it all. I just SMDH and ROTFLMAO at it all, because the same people screaming about said ‘sensitive material’ are the same ones who thought it was JUST FINE for the government to tap people’s phones and computers after 9/11/2001. You people wanted your ‘national security’ so you all could feel safe from ‘terrorists’ – what in the ever-loving FUCK did you think that really meant?!? Did you give it any thought? HELL NO! Speaking of Mr. Snowden, it appears that he didn’t really have the credentials to work where he did in the first place. He had a shaky work history, dropped out of one school, and didn’t even make it in the military – yet, the 29-year-old white had a cushy job in Hawai’i and a big house. If Mr. Snowden had been non-white, he wouldn’t have been given a pass to get that cushy job; also, if he were Black and on the run, you can bet people would be calling for his head on a pike! He wouldn’t be labeled as a ‘hero’ by Michael Moore or Julian Asange – shit, just look at the treatment Charles Ramsey has received. He who helped rescue those young women in Ohio, who had been held as sexual prisoners for years, has been treated abhorrently by EVERYONE in the media!

I’ve busted my ass for years and couldn’t accomplish what ‘Snowden Happypants’ did…gee, I wonder why? No, I know why! No need to talk about it though, because it’s just an issue that nobody cares about or wants to do anything about. Who cares if Black people are STILL discriminated against in pretty much everything under the sun, including employment?!? What really frosts my cookies are the Black people who DO own businesses, yet refuse to hire other Black people – WTF is up with THAT???

Besides, there are other, bigger things to screech about than the petty issues I just listed! Let’s piss and moan ENDLESSLY about things and talk about what HUGE PROBLEMS exist, then identify them, and then…DO NOTHING but REPEAT YOURSELF ENDLESSLY about all of these HUGE PROBLEMS, and shut down ANYONE who doesn’t say or do the EXACT SAME THING as you do. It’s so beneficial to NEVER TALK ABOUT SOLUTIONS, ONLY THE PROBLEMS, isn’t it? Whenever I turn on the television or plug into the interwebs, I read or hear an endless, repetitive litany of shit that is regurgitated verbatim from mindless drones and Limbaugh-esqe ‘ditto-heads.’ Wow…how fucking limiting and depressing, eh? Fuck-all, I thought that I and my fellow GenXers were mopey and apathetic! We have nothing on the ones who are constantly plugged in to technology; people who think that entertainment is reality and have no concept of face-to-face conversations or meaningful relationships. When I see young adults in their early 20s talking about getting assloads of plastic surgery and thinking that how they look is going to solve their obvious mental problems, it makes me SMDH and think, “Wow – it really sucks to be you!” I tend to think that about the unbalanced ones, who feel the need to be in people’s faces with their desperation and screams of, “Look at ME!!! Love ME!!! I HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS – LISTEN TO ME!!!” *SIGH* How tiresome those types are…

Jebus Cripes in a chariot-driven sidecar!!! I could go on, but the things that I care about, and what things matter to me, and what things I find important, just don’t matter to others. I don’t grow grey hairs over that, though, because the feeling is more than mutual…I can’t say that I give a flying fuck about things that other people find relevant! I don’t give a shit about pop culture, for instance. Celebutards are boring to me, for the most part. When I watch Conan O’Brien, or The Daily Show, or the Colbert Report, for example, I don’t pay much attention to the guests unless they happen to be someone I find interesting – and that isn’t very often, I can tell you that!

I’ll cut this one short and leave off with some music…it soothes the savage beast, don’t ya know? I also think that it’s past due time for a Skyrim update – I need to regale you with tales of ‘my’ travels in Solstheim! For now, I’m going to sit in the sunshine and tend to my ‘locs, while the sun warms my scalp. I will watch the hummers battle and the eagles circle; I’ll listen to the nearby birdsong and the surf roar in the near distance, and I’ll close my eyes and enjoy the music of the “liltin’ wae and liltin’ tae,” as Jodie Foster in Nell stated. Moths are flattened in arrowhead shapes on the side of the garage – I count three. The seven spears of bamboo get taller by the day – and I noticed another one in the midst of the main clump! All of the plants in and around the yard show evidence of growth…they are healthy and thriving, and I love the way they look. When one is able to surround themselves with natural beauty, it brings a sense of peace.

In Memoriam: Trayvon Martin

Trayvon Martin: 5 February 1995 – 26 February 2012

Today marks the day that, one year ago, a young man named Trayvon Martin was gunned down by a colour-aroused racistnamed George Zimmerman in a Florida neighbourhood. Trayvon was visiting his father and had gone to a convenience store to purchase some snack foods. As he returned, Zimmerman, a self-described “neighbourhood watchman” (read: trigger-happy vigilante wannabe), followed Trayvon, harassed him, and instigated an altercation which resulted in Trayvon’s murder. It was all needless, of course, but there are some very sick fucks out there who truly feel that Trayvon deserved to die, even going so far as saying that HE was the one who instigated the incident!

The Huffington Post reports:

“Today marks the one year anniversary of the Trayvon Martin shooting, the incident that sparked an international conversation about race, gun control and law enforcement.

Martin was headed back to the home of his father’s girlfriend shortly after 7 p.m. on Feb. 26, 2012, after a trip to the convenience store. George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old neighborhood-watch member, reported Martin to the police and told the 911 dispatcher that the teenager looked “suspicious.” Zimmerman was told by the dispatcher not to follow Martin, but a few minutes after the police call, Martin lay dead from a gunshot to the chest.

Zimmerman admitted to police that he shot Martin, but claimed he acted in self-defense. He was later arrested and charged with second-degree murder, and is currently awaiting trial set for June 10.

The case garnered national attention, with protests and rallies around the country calling for the shooting to be investigated and for Zimmerman to be prosecuted.

However, sentiments surrounding the case have been split. While many have asserted that the former neighborhood watchman racially profiled the teen, others have implied that he was justified in his actions, an opinion that hits home for Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton.

It really is disheartening to know that people in general are trying to justify why this adult male went after this teenage, young man. You can’t justify it. You can’t give a reason why. Because he was wearing a hoodie? Because of the color of his skin? Because of what he thought?[I]f this adult had remained in his vehicle, like the police dispatcher advised him to do, then this situation could have been avoided. He chose to follow my son. He chose to pursue my son. He chose to confront my son. And the result is my son’s death. I believe the responsibility lies on him as an adult because my son was not following him. He did not confront him. He did not chase him. And he did not have a weapon.”

The comment below followed that article, and it is the same load of scheisse that every racist, white-trash, inbred asshat out there regurgitates as they try to justify the cold-blooded murder of a 17-year-old who was minding his own business – because, after all, it’s only the racists who are justifying this murder. “It doesn’t make sense that Zimmerman just shot Trayvon, without Trayvon attacking beforehand. The evidence points in this direction. If you can’t accept that, then you probably have a chip on your shoulder. Mixing your implicit or explicit memories with a case like this is a bad idea.
Everyone sees a cause and effect in this event. Some people jump immediately to the race factor, and others will ask themselves who attacked first. If you are in the latter group, then it makes sense that Zimmerman was provoked, and the evidence shows he was attacked brutally before taking a shot.”

Yeah, sure. Trayvon just attacked Zimmerman with no provocation, right? Newsflash, genius – a person who stalks another, needlessly, deserves to get a fucking beat-down! I’ve been needlessly followed by men on city streets as I walked from my bartending job at the Kingdome to my apartment in Belltown, and you can bet that I didn’t stand for it. By this fucktard’s logic, I would have deserved to die for protecting myself against rape or worse!

Here are the facts:

  • Zimmerman profiled Trayvon because of his skin colour: he thought he “didn’t belong” in the gated community.
  • Zimmerman stalked Trayvon by following him in his vehicle. He didn’t identify himself as anybody with any genuine authority to Trayvon, but he called 911 and reported Trayvon as being “suspicious.”
  • Zimmerman was told to stop following Trayvon, but he didn’t – he continued his stalking, then exited his vehicle – why?
  • Finally, mere minutes after the 911 call, Trayvon lay dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. That’s up close and personal…

It’s 2013. We’re well into the 21st century, yet there are still places that fly the confederate flag and insist that “It’s history, not racism!!!” Yeah, just look at Mississippi’s state flag, and then let it sink in that they only ratified the 13th Amendment on 7th February of this year – and then, only because of a fictitious movie! Alabama and Florida only recently removed the confederate flag as part of their state banner, but they kept it in aspect – so it was really a meaningless gesture!

Marian Wright Edelman, President of the Children’s Defense Fund, has an excellent article on the Huffington Post which asks this question: “What Killed President Kennedy & Trayvon Martin?” Here’s an excerpt:

“Shortly after President Kennedy’s assassination, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote that it was time for our nation to do some soul-searching, and while the question “Who killed President Kennedy?” was important, answering the question “What killed President Kennedy?” was even more critical. Dr. King believed the answer was that “our late president was assassinated by a morally inclement climate”: “It is a climate filled with heavy torrents of false accusation, jostling winds of hatred, and raging storms of violence. It is a climate where men cannot disagree without being disagreeable, and where they express dissent through violence and murder. It is the same climate that murdered Medgar Evers in Mississippi and six innocent Negro children in Birmingham, Alabama.” Dr. King further noted that the undercurrents of hatred and violence that made up this morally inclement climate were fueled by our cultural embrace of guns: “By our readiness to allow arms to be purchased at will and fired at whim, by allowing our movie and television screens to teach our children that the hero is one who masters the art of shooting and the technique of killing, by allowing all these developments, we have created an atmosphere in which violence and hatred have become popular pastimes.”

This climate is certainly prevalent today, and has been ever since President Obama took office – it isn’t coincidental. One look at the comment section following the article proves this, as most commentators completely missed the point of the article. They have an immediate knee-jerk reaction when the word ‘gun control’ is mentioned, and immediately start spouting off the usual skewed statistics about so-called ‘black-on-black’ violence.

You have people saying inane shit like “I don’t like the way he talks down to me during his appearances and speeches!” when you ask, specifically, what about Obama’s politics and practices they dislike. When I ask about a specific thing and the answer has nothing to do with the question, I pretty much figure that the person doesn’t have a leg to stand on and the conversation is over. I won’t argue or debate with people like that, because they’re not interested in a meaninful exchange of ideas. They’re the same people who will flood your inbox with old, unfounded hoax articles that have long been discounted by sites like Snopes.com. I recently heard two old bags in a grocery store talking about how Michelle, Sasha, and Malia all “inconvenienced a bunch of shoppers” on a “recent trip to France.” Funny thing about that is, the trip was in 2009 – that’s not exactly recent!

* SIGH *

I fear that Trayvon and his family will not get their due justice – hell, this whole incident was buggered from the beginning – and it’s sickening. A young man’s life taken, solely because of the colour of his skin. A young man who could have been my own son. Maybe my nephew. He could have been a younger brother, a student, a family friend. Zimmerman gets to be fat and happy with his hateful family, while Trayvon’s family and friends mourn him. His promising life was cut short – stolen by a racist fuck with festering slag between his ears. And his ilk stand by him, supporting and justifying this unjustifiable act.

Sickened & Angered

Hadiya Pendleton: 1997 – 2013

I am speechless, sickened, angered and overwhelmed today. A beautiful young lady, an honor student who performed at President Obama’s inauguration, was senselessly gunned down in cold blood at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29th. Hadiya Pendleton was amongst a group of teenagers who were taking shelter from the rain in a local park, when a gunman jumped over a nearby fence and, without warning, opened fire. She was struck by the bullets, as were two 17-year-old boys. Recent reports add that she had appeared in a PSA denouncing gang violence, approximately 4 years ago. This should dispel the lies and false reports that she was in a gang, which I’m certain have been propagated by whites who are determined to criminalize a Black victim of violence – it happened with Trayvon Martin, Rekia Boyd, and countless other murdered Black youths…it won’t stop anytime soon. At any rate, she wasn’t in a gang, but was gunned down by a gangbanger who mistook the huddled youths as members of a rival gang – a sad case of “wrong place, wrong time”.

Another thing that angers me is how the media is going overboard with their focus on the paranoid fucktard in Alabama who, not surprisingly, is unofficially being labeled “nuttier than squirrel shit” by his neighbours and the local law enforcement. He’s is holding an innocent, young autistic boy hostage, and that’s the irrational act of a psychotic freak – but he’s doing it in a bunker that everybody around him knew he had built the moment he moved into the area. He is a Vietnam War veteran with severe, well-known mental issues – but that didn’t prevent him from obtaining firearms, which are supposedly not allowed in the possession of the mentally ill. I’m still wondering why he demanded two young boys…I can’t imagine what the child is going through. Murdering another in front of 22 terrified children, all for some sick need? The Field Negro put it succinctly:

“If hearing about the Newtown tragedies was the saddest day of Mr. Obama’s presidency, hearing about this little girl should be the second saddest. Actually, given the fact that she was shot just a mile from his home in Chicago, and that she actually performed at his “coronation” ,you could argue that this little girl’s death should hit home even more. He has a beautiful daughter who is almost her age. From all appearances this poor child represented everything that was good about being a young teenager: Honor student, volley ball player, and a majorette in the King College Prep High School band. Sadly, though, she is no longer with us.
“Police say 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton was shot in the back Tuesday and later died at University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. An unidentified boy was shot in the leg and is being treated at the hospital. No arrests have been made.” [Source] “If I had a son he would look like Trayvon.” Mr. President, you have a daughter, and she looks just like Hadiya.

And the beat goes on. Not only in a hood near you, but in all of Americana. In Phoenix, Arizona today, some old dude shot up an office complex and is still on the loose. In Midland, Alabama, some nut case went on a school bus, took a six year old child, and shot the school bus driver to death. (The NRA now calling for armed school bus drivers in 5…4…3..2..) That genius is still hiding out in a Glenn Beck style survival bunker.”

Fuck-all…some people seriously need to be locked away for the safety and well-being of others. Speaking of “Glenn Beck-style survival bunker”, this link shows what that dystopia would be like!

I’ll close this post with some final thoughts from Brotha Wolf’s blog – there are links to a couple of petitions that I’m compelled to sign, even if doing so is considered as empty a gesture as voting. Still, keeping the topic open for discussion is crucial, no matter how many try to silence us by shouting us down or censoring our thoughts and statements.

Vigilante “Justice”…

Ye gawds…people continue to go apeshit in my neck of the woods. I’m glad I live in a quiet community; I’m aware that there are those types of freaks pretty much next door, but in a smaller town there is a smaller percentage of them and I know where they are clustered – far from me!

First off, we have a cop in Vancouver, WA, who shot a young man in the back. Doug Combs, 16, died in a downtown Vancouver neighborhood at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 26th. He was suspected of a home invasion shooting in the Hazel Dell neighbourhood, as well as the armed robbery of two convenience stores – but there are no details on what happened in the minutes before the shooting. The number of people shot by cops in the back, here in the Pacific Northwest, is an interesting study. Aaron Campbell was murdered by cops in that fashion, a few years ago.

Just this morning, in another Vancouver neighbourhood, a man called 911 and reported a “prowler around his house”. Minutes later, the same homeowner called 911 again, telling operators that he had shot the prowler – a neighbour reported hearing four gunshots ring out. The suspected prowler was found dead in the street outside. No identifying details have been released about either the shooter or the victim, except that they are both male. If you happened to click on the link about the story, I hope you noted the comment section – some clown had to made a reference to Trayvon Martin and how he deserved to die because “you shouldn’t be prowling where you don’t belong!” Interesting comment and language used, no? I’m all for defending your property, but there is something called “overkill” – horrid pun intended. The law, supposedly, looks for something called “reasonable force”, and I don’t see how gunning someone down in the street can be considered defending your home with “reasonable force”. I wonder if the “prowler” was shot in the back? I wouldn’t be surprised, and I have a suspicion over what the respective “races” of the individuals will be…time will tell – I’ll keep you posted.

On another note, here’s a story dealing with a different type of vigilante justice – that of the FBI and their entrapment of a local, Somali-born young man. Mohamed Mohamud was depressed and isolated – the perfect target for any sort of predator. People such as that tend to be easily manipulated into unthinkable, unspeakable activities and this young man was no exception. He’s being used by the FBI to set an “anti-terrorism” example, while home-grown terror cells are allowed to flourish in the whites-only backwood areas of the USA. White fringe groups are overlooked while the microscope is focused on any and every organization with “suspicious, foreign” (read: African) ties.

Finally, a word on the Parrish Bennette trial. He’s the young man who murdered his girlfriend, Yashanee Vaughn, in March of 2011. He was apparently sentenced to 18 years in prison under some sort of plea deal. The question of “Why?” still remains, and it appears it will never be answered. Any answer would most likely be unsatisfactory, as taking the life of another isn’t something that should be reveled in or taken lightly. That’s a heavy thing to do, even if it’s justified – how a person can live with themselves when they’ve done so for no reason is beyond me.

Trayvon Martin’s Murder: Thoughts on ‘Stand Your Ground’

George Zimmerman, the murderer of Trayvon Martin, has been released on a pittance of a bail amount and is free to interact with his family and friends, who (as expected) have rallied behind him with the flimsiest excuses for his actions.  In short, this nutless, gutless, paranoid piece of shit profiled, stalked, and harassed a young man.  When that young man, reasonably fearing for his safety and life, attacked the suspicious individual (Zimmerman) who was following him (after getting no response to his questions of “Who are you?” and “What do you want?”), Zimmerman executed that young man in cold blood.  I’ve been thinking about that supposed justification a lot, being labeled the ‘stand your ground’ defense, since it has been bandied about the ‘interwebs’ from day one.  It’s fascinating, especially now that it is NOT being used as a justifiable defense for a young, black woman named Marissa Alexander, who fired her gun INTO THE AIR, NOT INTO ANOTHER HUMAN BEING, in order to scare away her abusive husband when he was assaulting her.  Here’s the story, in case you haven’t heard of it:

I was born and raised here in the Pacific Northwest – born in the state of Washington, schooled in Alaska, lived in Seattle for 10 years, lived in Portland, OR for 10 more; now I reside in Southwestern Washington state.  This area of the country is beautiful, but the people make it quite ugly!  I enjoy nature when I don’t have to see or hear my ‘fellow’ humanoids…

Anyway, I have been around guns for the majority of my life.  Hunting for food has always been the main reason; carrying guns for defense when you wander backwoods trails, knowing that bear encounters are likely, well…that speaks for itself, no?  To me, guns are not toys – they are tools that have their purpose and necessary education and training is important before utilizing them.  My father taught my older brothers and me about gun safety, and we always respected their deadliness.  We knew where they were kept in the house, but would never have dreamed of taking them out of the cabinet to show off to our friends – THEY ARE NOT TOYS.  Many of our friends had gun cabinets in their houses as well; for the most part, we would admire each other’s firearms as they rested behind glass panels – everyone we knew had a great collection!

When I moved to the city, I put my guns in storage – I was raising my son on my own and lived in a secure building, so I didn’t feel the need to have guns in the apartment.  I took self-defense courses, worked out, and rode bicycle or took public transit – didn’t need a car and had no space for one, so we lived frugally.  On weekends when my ex-husband was residing in the area, we shared custody and he had visitation rights every weekend.  When my son was with his dad, I would take solitary evening strolls along the waterfront and enjoy peace and quiet.  I didn’t like going to crowded, smoke-filled clubs all the time – getting some fresh air; watching boats and the lights of the city on the water at night, were some of the best times of all.

One evening – it was around 10:30, warm and in mid-May – I was walking along the pedestrian trail at my favorite park.  I passed some guy who stared at me for a second, then blurted out: “Hey, I just got out of jail – can I jerk off in front of you?”  I was stunned, then shook it off and laughed at him.  I said, “You do know that there are some places you can go to do that around here, and you only have to pay a quarter – those chicks will give you more for your money than I would!”  I even offered him a quarter, but he just mumbled and started walking away.  I resumed my stroll, then got an odd feeling…I generally trust my gut instinct, so I turned around quickly to see that the guy had started following me, and had unbuttoned his pants, unzipped his fly, and was spanking his monkey as he walked behind me.  I looked around on the ground for some sort of weapon (my belt would have done in a pinch, if I hadn’t located something adequate) and spotted a 2X4 with a couple of long, bent nails sticking out of it.  I grabbed it up and started walking towards the guy, telling him “If you wish to keep that pitiful little thing, you’d better get the fuck away from me – these nails look rusty!”  He turned and fled.  Guess what…a guy CAN run with his pants half-off, probably just as fast as a chick can with her skirt hiked up, right!  (Slam at you rape-excusers out there, LOL)

I walked straight to the nearest waterfront bar and had a couple of drinks to ease my rage, then called a cab to go home – my place was 10 blocks away, and I wasn’t going to invite trouble.  I have always refused to be a victim ever since I learned how to defend myself and fight back.  I would have had no problem whacking his tallywhacker off of his person, then taking it to the nearest police station for evidence!  Notice, though, that I did not escalate the situation.  I let the person know that I was aware of his presence, and quite prepared to defend myself against whatever ill actions he had in mind.  When he ran, I did not pursue – I went to the nearest place with plenty of people around, and made sure that I had safe transport home.  This does not mean that I feel that Zimmerman was justified in any way, shape or form – he instigated and escalated the situation, and nothing Trayvon could have done would have prevented his death.  I wholeheartedly believe that Trayvon Martin was doomed to die from the moment Zimmerman’s beady eyes fell on him.

Now, taking that entire scenario under careful scrutiny, would that cretin have had the right to shoot me?  I certainly would have had the right to shoot him, with multiple justifications:

  • Recently released from prison – on what charges?  Sexual offenses?  Was he a registered sex offender?  Why was there no curfew or house arrest?  White criminals seem to escape any real punishment.
  • Public indecency; lewd and lascivious conduct, sexual harassment, indecent exposure, intent to offend.  Those are just a few charges I can think of that could have been levied if they’d managed to catch his sick ass.
  • Following me with malicious intent, instead of taking the logical suggestion and finding a prostitute or going to a jack-shack.  A woman taking an evening walk in a jacket, jeans, and t-shirt is not selling anything unless she actively ‘gives you the high sign’ – get a fucking clue.

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about that incident a lot, as of late.  If I kill someone in justifiable self-defense, would I get the mobs of support that Zimmerman has gotten?  I think we all know the answer to that question.  We all know that there are multiple double-standards in operation on any given day when it comes to the in-justice system in this country, and it’s a gawddamned, fucking shame.
