FEEDING DONE………NAP TIME

You know that spring has sprung when Nature’s little ones make their appearance. These are some lovely, tranquil photos of a mother bear with her cub.

HOW TO GET A HUMMER TO LAND ON YOUR FINGER

I don’t use a feeder as large as this, but I have had the pleasure of hummers landing on the feeder while I was hanging it, and have held one in my hand twice. Such charming, lovely little critters!

I’ve noticed that the Hummers go into a feeding frenzy near sunset.I suspect they do it at sunrise too but I’m too lazy to find that out?

I wondered If I could get one them to land on my finger? Hummers have to be one of the most skittish creatures out there! The slightest movement can make them take off in a blur!

So I tried to think of a way I could get one these beautiful creatures to land on my finger?Holding ones arm out is difficult after a few minutes. So you need a brace for your arm.I used a monopod but you can use a tripod or a pole.

I’ve noticed over the last few nights that they go into a feeding frenzy around 7:45pm.So I set up some lights for filming earlier & waited.

Once I saw them starting to “flock”I turned on the camera & placed…

I found Ernie & Ethel sitting side by side! I don’t see them doing that very often. It’s mating season so they tend to hang out a lot together. So much so that when Ethel took off,Ernie joined her seconds later!

Came across a great rainbow today but couldn’t really take advantage of it.I couldn’t find a eagle anywhere?

I couldn’t see Tranquil valley due to the rain. In the second shot you can see a tall Sitka. That dead tree is huge btw.I’m waiting for a wind storm to bring it down.I’ve always thought that It would make a excellent eagle tree, but I’ve never seen one on it.

SUNSET STORM

Coastal living can’t be beat…especially when treated to scenes such as this! Beautiful.

If you assume 81 years as being the average life expectance (Canada) & obviously with there being 365 days in each year (ignoring leap years of course because we’re just doing a rough calculation here)…than that means each person would of lived 29,565 days.

The reason I bring this up is because I’ve realized something about light. If you could photograph the same object each day for 29,565 days you would notice that each photograph, each days light, is unique & always different. True, some days might look the same but I think there would still be differences.

I’ve photographed this exact angle thousands of times. You can click onto the “Lennard Island Lighthouse” category & find hundreds of shots taken from this spot. You’ll find each one different even though the subject is the same.Because of the clouds, the light, the waves etc, each shot is different. Like a finger print, each days light is unique.

There was a cloud bank blocking the sunset to the west. However, I could see a narrow slit along the very bottom of this bank.I knew the sun would explode through this gap. Think of venation blinds with one or two slats at the bottom taken out.

I went over to visit with Romeo/Juliette & waited for the show to start.

Many times I just shut the engine off & wait for the light. As long as I can see that it will shine forth,I don’t mind waiting.Gives me a chance to observe whats going on around me.It’s all because of the cloud formation.I look at the live Satellite feed before going out every time.Understanding the cloud stream is critical for my photography!

The sun did come through as I suspected & painted the landscape in a most surreal light!

I love these moments! They only last minutes,so I’m always mindful…
