Last Week Tonight: Saudi Arabia

In today’s installment of “Last Week Tonight,” John puts the focus on Saudi Arabia and the uncomfortably close relationship between that country and the USA.

For decades, administrations have been turning a blind eye to the human rights violations that Saudi Arabia blatantly perpetrates. It all comes down to money, proving that a good number of people will do the most horrific things to others for a little bit of cabbage.

Mid-Week Memoriam: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today marks the day that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated by a rabid racist at the Lorraine Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee. It was a year to the day that he gave a speech that is lesser-known, but infinitely more powerful than, the often-mentioned but woefully mis-quoted “I Have a Dream” speech. The “Beyond Vietnam” speech, given at Riverside Church on 4 April 1967, caused his relationship with the Johnson administration to deteriorate:

King had been a solid supporter of President Lyndon B. Johnson and his Great Society, but he became increasingly concerned about U.S. involvement in Vietnam and, as his concerns became more public, his relationship with the Johnson administration deteriorated. King came to view U.S. intervention in Southeast Asia as little more than imperialism. Additionally, he believed that the Vietnam War diverted money and attention from domestic programs created to aid the black poor. Furthermore, he said, ‘the war was doing far more than devastating the hopes of the poor at home…We were taking the black young men who had been crippled by our society and sending them eight thousand miles away to guarantee liberties in Southeast Asia which they had not found in southwest Georgia and East Harlem.’” King maintained his antiwar stance and supported peace movements until he was assassinated on April 4, 1968, one year to the day after delivering his Beyond Vietnam speech.”

That deterioration is prime evidence of the way white people expect Black people to toe the line of “respectability politics” by “taking the high road” while demanding that we “know our place.” If we dare speak out about our personal experiences in an open, honest fashion, whites close their ears, turn their backs, and accuse us of being “unreasonable” and “racially charged” – the same accusations which were levied against Dr. King during even the most peaceful marches he organized.

Dr. King was instrumental in advancing the cause for equality, even in the face of segregation, Jim Crow laws, and personal attacks on both himself and his family. He accomplished much in just under 13 years:

Some of Dr. King’s most important achievements include:

~ In 1955, he was recruited to serve as spokesman for the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which was a campaign by the African-American population of Montgomery, Alabama to force integration of the city’s bus lines. After 381 days of nearly universal participation by citizens of the black community, many of whom had to walk miles to work each day as a result, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in transportation was unconstitutional.

~ In 1957, Dr. King was elected president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), an organization designed to provide new leadership for the now burgeoning civil rights movement. He would serve as head of the SCLC until his assassination in 1968, a period during which he would emerge as the most important social leader of the modern American civil rights movement.

~ In 1963, he led a coalition of numerous civil rights groups in a nonviolent campaign aimed at Birmingham, Alabama, which at the time was described as the “most segregated city in America.” The subsequent brutality of the city’s police, illustrated most vividly by television images of young blacks being assaulted by dogs and water hoses, led to a national outrage resulting in a push for unprecedented civil rights legislation. It was during this campaign that Dr. King drafted the “Letter from a Birmingham Jail,” the manifesto of Dr. King’s philosophy and tactics, which is today required-reading in universities worldwide.

~ Later in 1963, Dr. King was one of the driving forces behind the March for Jobs and Freedom, more commonly known as the “March on Washington,” which drew over a quarter-million people to the national mall. It was at this march that Dr. King delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, which cemented his status as a social change leader and helped inspire the nation to act on civil rights. Dr. King was later named Time magazine’s “Man of the Year.”

~ In 1964, at 35 years old, Martin Luther King, Jr. became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize. His acceptance speech in Oslo is thought by many to be among the most powerful remarks ever delivered at the event, climaxing at one point with the oft-quoted phrase “I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right temporarily defeated is stronger than evil triumphant.”

~ Also in 1964, partly due to the March on Washington, Congress passed the landmark Civil Rights Act, essentially eliminating legalized racial segregation in the United States. The legislation made it illegal to discriminate against blacks or other minorities in hiring, public accommodations, education or transportation, areas which at the time were still very segregated in many places.

~ The next year, 1965, Congress went on to pass the Voting Rights Act, which was an equally-important set of laws that eliminated the remaining barriers to voting for African-Americans, who in some locales had been almost completely disenfranchised. This legislation resulted directly from the Selma to Montgomery, AL March for Voting Rights lead by Dr. King.

~ Between 1965 and 1968, Dr. King shifted his focus toward economic justice – which he highlighted by leading several campaigns in Chicago, Illinois – and international peace – which he championed by speaking out strongly against the Vietnam War. His work in these years culminated in the “Poor Peoples Campaign,” which was a broad effort to assemble a multiracial coalition of impoverished Americans who would advocate for economic change.

~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s less than thirteen years of nonviolent leadership ended abruptly and tragically on April 4th, 1968, when he was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. King’s body was returned to his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, where his funeral ceremony was attended by high-level leaders of all races and political stripes.”

It’s a shame that the political landscape has returned to those days. The Voting Rights Act has been virtually stripped by the same people who most likely cheered and celebrated Dr. King’s assassination. People tell themselves the lie that racism is over, simply because the U.S. had a Black president, and use that as an excuse to denigrate the Civil Rights Act and claim that discrimination simply doesn’t happen to non-white people anymore.

That is a load of rubbish that raises huge red flags to me whenever I see or hear it claimed anywhere, by anyone. I look at his words and actions as a whole and in context. Cherry-picking two quotes from one speech, as many are prone to do, is limiting and insulting. It is the modus operandi of the covert racist, a group that has come out of the woodwork and become blatantly overt over the past couple of years. They have been emboldened and empowered as of late, and their senseless, baseless white grievances encourage them to escalate and blast their coded and thinly-veiled racist gaslighting everywhere they go.

Those Poor Kids

What went through their minds as the freak behind the wheel stomped her foot down on the gas pedal and sent the van hurtling off the cliff?

Innocent kids killed by the people who had adopted them. Murdered by the people who were supposed to care for and protect them.

Instead, they were used by self-absorbed narcissists who felt that children are merely props to decorate the stage of their shallow lives.

Tools to put in front of cameras at tragic events in the hopes that their YouTube video goes “viral” and their blog gets “freshly pressed.”

People who have children solely to get attention or for dark, selfish gains aren’t equipped to be parents.

I feel sorry for kids with parents like that. Said parents tend to be overly opinionated shitholes filled with hate and self-loathing, and they take out that hate and rage on their kids behind closed doors. They always show bright, shining faces in public.

That atmosphere is toxic.

Full Frontal Thursday: The Cult of the NRA

In this installment of “Full Frontal Thursday,” Sam gets some anti-gun hysteria out of her system and then makes sense about how people conflate hatred and racism with mental illness.

I’m a current gun owner and a former member of the NRA. I’ve stated in past posts that the NRA is an erstwhile cult; those posts were overlooked for whatever reason. This topic is something that I’m very familiar with, and have personal experience dealing with.

It’s a shame that people seem to be more interested in getting half-assed information from those who can’t tell the difference between their rectal orifices and a crater. Armchair “warriors” flaming on others in chatrooms, on message boards, and in the comment sections of any social media outlet.

Crazy.

Moment of Silence: 13 August 2017 (Re-blogged)

Re-blogging this because it needs to be seen, if only by one person.

Black people aren’t the ones who are painting whites with the racism brush. Other whites are.

Especially the ones who claim that anti-racism is “anti-white.”

😎

No Words…

I’m absolutely speechless…I just saw this news.

If people actually and actively displayed empathy for others, instead of just talking about it and paying lip service, would horrific events like this take place? I wonder…I really, really do.

Injustice…

…comes in many forms. The most obvious form is what occurred last Friday, when the cop who murdered Anthony Lamar Smith in 2011 was acquitted of the crime. Jason Stockley shot and killed Mr. Smith with an AK-47, then tried to plant phony evidence justifying the murder. He gets off scot-free, thanks to the new “justice” department under klansman Jefferson Beauregard Sessions.

Just yesterday, a racist scumbag was arrested in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after murdering two Black men over a two-day period last week. Ken Gleason, 23, shot Bruce Cofield, 59, and Donald Smart, 49. From BBC News:

“A suspect has been arrested in the US state of Louisiana for the murders of two black men, which authorities said were “racially motivated”. Baton Rouge police have also charged Kenneth Gleason with attempted murder after shots were fired at an African-American family’s home.

Investigators say they discovered the 23-year-old’s DNA on pistol shell-casings found at the crime scenes. A lawyer for Mr Gleason, who is white, said his client denies the charges. During a search of the suspect’s home over the weekend, authorities discovered a speech by Adolf Hitler, as well as cannabis and human growth hormone, US media report.

Bruce Cofield, 59, and Donald Smart, 49, were both shot in separate incidents while walking on the streets of the Louisiana state capital last week. Mr Cofield was homeless, and Mr Smart had been walking to his job as a dishwasher at a cafe popular with Louisiana State University students.

Authorities believe the two victims were first shot from a car before the attacker walked over and continued firing at them as they lay on the ground. The attacks happened two days apart, and police say they believe neither man had any previous interaction with Mr Gleason. Police also believe Mr Gleason may have opened fire on the home of a black family in his neighbourhood, where he lives with his parents. Nobody was injured in that attack.

Baton Rouge Interim Police Chief Jonny Dunnam said on Tuesday: “I feel confident this killer probably would have killed again, and could have potentially created a tear in the fabric that holds this community together.” Mr Gleason had just posted bail for unrelated theft charges when he was arrested for the killings. He has been booked on two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property and illegal use of weapon, according to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office.”

23 years old, and still living with his parents? Typical white-trash loser being enabled by his inbred, white-trash parents. Most likely doing nothing but posting self-righteous bullshit on Facebook and Twitter, while ignoring the festering hatred their words and deeds fertilized. If the narrative follows true to form, the usual empty platitudes of that asshole’s family and friends will be spouted: “We had absolutely no idea…” “He wasn’t raised that way…” “There was no indication that he would do something like this…”

Bullshit. Those empty words ring hollow, because they are complete and utter bullshit. See, injustice also takes a sinister and covert aspect when people actively, and willingly, ignore glaring red flags – especially when those flags are being waved by their own family members or friends. They tune out the people who are trying to say, “Hey – something isn’t right, there.” They shut us out and tell us, “Shut up! You have no clue what you’re talking about! YOU’RE JUST BEING JUDGEMENTAL!!!” Those people then go on and on, justifying the unjustifiable, excusing the inexcusable, and defending the indefensible. Then they act all shocked and surprised when a horror such as this occurs.

Pathetic.

Silent Moment Saturday…Domestic Terrorism in Charlottesville, Virginia

The events in Charlottesville, Virginia of last night and today leave me heartsick, speechless, and sadly, unsurprised. It was only a matter of time, what with the hateful and vitriolic language and attitudes spanning the internet. Pointing out the obvious was labeled as “ranting” by others and deemed unworthy of listening to, while those who spread the racist rhetoric are adored and fawned upon. The amount of sickness out there is staggering, to say the least. The articles below are testament to how little is really being done to address this madness, which has long been festering in the hearts and minds of many.

Tribute Post: Bakari Jaward Henderson

Again. I have to write another one of these tribute posts, yet again. This one is to honour 22-year-old Bakari Henderson, who had his promising young life tragically and brutally cut short on the streets of Zakynthos, Greece. He was in a sports bar on Thursday night / Friday morning, celebrating his recent graduation from the University of Arizona and preparing to launch his own clothing line, when he was attacked and beaten by six white men of Eastern European descent. From the Washington Post:

Authorities are continuing to investigate the death of an American tourist who they say was brutally beaten outside a bar in Greece.

Bakari Henderson, 22, was with friends at a bar in Laganas, a tourist village on the island of Zakynthos, when the fight occurred early Friday morning. It began when another customer approached Henderson, and the confrontation quickly escalated to a fistfight outside, where more people beat Henderson, according to state news agency ANA-MPA. It is not known whether his friends were involved in the altercation.

It remains unclear what prompted the fight. At least eight people have been arrested and charged in connection with Henderson’s death, authorities said. Tiara Henderson, Bakari Henderson’s cousin, said in a Facebook post Friday that his death was the result of a “senseless crime” and “horrendous actions by the perpetrators.”

Surveillance videos from nearby shops showed the suspects beating Henderson even after he was unconscious, ANA-MPA reported. The recent University of Arizona graduate later died at a hospital.

I can only speculate as to why he was attacked, but I’m more than certain that it had to do with the colour of his skin. Europeans, especially those from the Slavic areas, are notoriously and irrationally hateful towards anyone with skin darker than a manila envelope; seeing a Black man with his arm around a white woman no doubt sent the inbred, racist sacks of filth into paroxysms of rage.

I hurt for his family and friends. For a parent to lose a child, that is a pain that I can’t begin to fathom. Losing your child in such a horrible manner? Even more frightful, sickening, and anguish-inducing. Waving good-bye to your kid at the airport, wishing him a safe trip and to return home soon from a fun-filled holiday – instead, having to contact a foreign office to request the return of his lifeless body. All because a pack of inbred animals felt justified in provoking a violent confrontation and ending the life of another human being. Ending the life of a bright, talented, dedicated young man who had so much to offer the community and the world. It isn’t lost on me that Drumpf the nazi is completely silent about this murder, but had all sorts of things to say about the mysterious coma and death of the young criminal who was imprisoned in Korea. He and his base don’t really give two tin shits about the killing of a young man who had committed no crime.

So sickening. So senseless. So wrong.

Tribute Post: Bianca Roberson

I wish that I didn’t have to do these types of posts. It saddens me greatly to see this useless hatred, which explodes in violence and takes innocent lives. Another promising future snuffed out at the hands of a hate-filled, inbred, racist piece of filth. For what? Some imagined slight from a young girl in a car?

I’m speaking, of course, about the senseless, brutal murder of 18-year-old Bianca Roberson, who was shot and killed in an incident of “road rage” on (date). From the BBC:

A 28-year-old man has turned himself in to police investigating a suspected road rage attack on a teenager shot dead in Pennsylvania last week. David Andrew Desper surrendered to authorities on Sunday, accompanied by a lawyer, and was charged with first-degree murder.

Bianca Roberson, 18, sustained a fatal gunshot to the head in the attack.

The suspect is also charged with third-degree murder, possessing an instrument of crime and and reckless endangering. Gunfire rang out last Wednesday during evening rush hour as Mr Desper’s red Chevrolet truck attempted to merge on to a lane in Chester County at the same time as Ms Roberson’s car, say officials.

Yes, the white-trash cretin finally turned himself in for the deed, but not out of any sense of responsibility or morality. He only did it so that he can get a lighter sentence by appearing contrite – and he’ll only get a slap on the wrist for this reprehensible deed, if he gets any punishment at all.

My heart hurt too much to post about this immediately. I’m tired of seeing these incidents. I’m tired of mourning the senseless loss of another young life who had hopes, dreams, and goals. Losing another who would have done so much good for her family and community. Murdered by a racist fuck who only saw the colour of her skin…and promptly saw red.
