Drunk History Is Back!

I’m glad to see that show return with new episodes.

Now begins the wait for The Orville and Wrecked on TBS to return.

John Oliver won’t have new episodes airing until mid-February.

My other comedy relief continues to deliver, thankfully.

They make the daily goings-on in the news bearable.

First Friday – March Musings

Aaaahh…it’s Friday, March 1st – a true First Friday! An engineering firm that I worked for in Seattle used to have a fun after-work gathering on First Fridays. Anyway, time for a few more random ramblings and myriad musings!

My dreadlocks are getting long and lovely! I had some touch-up maintenance done on them yesterday and they look grand…they are longer than what you see on the model above; they brush my shoulders and hang out from under the back of my motorcycle helmet when I go for a ride…I’m loving them! I seriously should have started them back when I was modeling, but better late than never. I had a slight epiphany over why I wore extensions for so long: People didn’t ask to touch my hair when I had them in!

My ‘locs closely resemble Debra Wilson’s, if you take a look at her picture below. Hers are longer than mine, but that’s essentially how they’re growing…not bad, eh?

I wanted to post a belated R.I.P. to Richard Street, another member of the Temptations – he passed away at a Las Vegas hospital after short illness, according to his wife. The Huffington Post reports:

“Former Motown vocalist Richard Street, a member of the Temptations for 25 years, has died. He was 70…Richard Street sang as a young man with Temptations members Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin, but didn’t join the famed Motown group until the early 1970s. He later made the move from his native Detroit to Los Angeles with other Motown acts and stayed with the group until the mid-1990s.”

He joins his fellow Temptations member Damon Harris, who passed away on 18 February. They are dancing together in that music hall in the hereafter…rock on, brothas…rock on.

Also, noted pianist Van Cliburn passed away at the age of 78 on 27 February. The lanky Texan, at the age of 23, took the world by storm in 1958 after winning the first International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. The L.A. Times reports:

“With his transcendent performances of Tchaikovsky’s First and Rachmaninoff’s Third piano concertos, Van Cliburn brought 1,500 Russians to their feet in a Moscow concert hall.

Declared the victor of the first International Tchaikovsky Competition, the young American became a hero of the Cold War era and an object of adoration around the world, whose fame helped bring classical music to the masses.

After the humiliation of Sputnik, Americans declared a cultural victory with Cliburn. Dubbed the “American Sputnik,” he was feted like no other classical musician before him, with a ticker-tape parade in New York City and fan clubs to rival a movie idol’s.

Cliburn, whose breakthrough success in 1958 made him one of the world’s most celebrated pianists, died Wednesday of bone cancer at his Forth Worth home, said his publicist, Mary Lou Falcone. He was 78.”

Rest in peace, gentle soul – you join the many.

Harvey Lavan “Van” Cliburn: 12 July 1934 – 27 February 2013

Here’s an interesting article on The Stream, from Al-Jazeera’s website, talking about “the N-word” and the continued debate over its use. Personally, I can’t stand the word – it was directed at me far too often for me to feel that it’s any sort of endearing term – but I’m also not going to shrivel up and die if others choose to use it. People glorified and justified its use for far too long, and even pay money to hear it used ad nauseum in movies – so trying to close the barn door after the horses have escaped is a bit futile! In fact, two of the songs I’m planning on posting have that horrid word in it, just for shits and giggles!

Ye gawds…just saw this story on Davey D’s Hip-Hop corner and am SMDH over it – well, I already knew that the end was near when Honey Boo Boo became the most ‘redneckonised’ person in AmeriKKKa! Wow…just – WOW.

The First Lady is getting a bunch of shit because she appeared at the Oscars – no surprise there. I love how her detractors rip on her over non-issues like her bangs, her figure, or her desire to have children not be fat, sloppy diabetics. People conveniently forget the fact that Laura Bush killed a man with her car, and that her darling daughters were sleazy CUNTS who put the ‘Girls Gone Wild’ bunch to shame! Selective, phony outrage is so pathetic…

Here are a couple of hilarious clips! First, Key & Peele show what happens when people try to be “Blacker than thou” – I see that nonsense on the interwebs daily; WTF is up with that?

Key & Peele: “Soul Food

Then, they find out why we, as Black people, CANNOT EVER do anything ‘fun’ like flash-mobbing!

Key & Peele: “Flash Mob

Honorable mention goes to the “Bald Brotherhood” skit, which I cannot find ANYWHERE – if you’ve been lucky enough to view it, you know what I’m talking about!

Next, Conan O’Brien talks about a firehouse masturbator – who apparently found himself in the audience!

Then, Conan reviews the new version of an old game that is being introduced (yet AGAIN) because someone thinks that the Tomb Raider franchise needs a boost! I guess that skeletal slag, Angelina Jolie, needs another adventure movie to star in? Go figure…anyway, watching Conan ‘perv out’ is fucking hilarious!

On that note, on with the tunes! Enjoy, and have an awesome weekend!     😎

Have A Happy & Blessed New Year…

Happy New Year, everyone! It is ringing in around the world already, so I wanted to get my wishes in before I’m too tipsy to be coherent, LMAO – 2013 will be just as much of a whirlwind as 2012 was, for different reasons…this year alone, we’ve put over 15,000 miles on two different motorcycles and have seen a lot of beautiful scenes of nature! We traveled a bit in 2010 as well; we hoped to do so next year, but planning a wedding takes precedence – yes, yours truly is getting married for the second (and final!) time in her life, to a wonderful man who was custom-built to every specification…gawds be praised and the divines smile upon us! Life is grand…there are things worth saving money for, and five years’ worth of hard work is finally bearing fruit. It’s excellent!

To my regular commenters, thank you for your support – it’s always appreciated! To any and all of the other various readers and/or lurkers, I hope you’re entertained, amused, irritated, or enraged by what I say…all I’m doing is speaking my mind and utilizing my own forum to do so…so there!     😀

We plan on ringing in the New Year the way we always do: setting off fireworks in our yard and sharing a kiss and a drink of fizzy goodness at midnight – it’s great fun! The champagne is chilling as I type this. As far as resolutions go, well…I’m a resolute person, and I have resolve – I think that’s sufficient, no?     😎

I’m in the process of adding some new screenshots to my PhotoBucket album – I’ll post the link here when they’re ready for viewing. Such a nice garden and lovely fish hatchery I have! The kids play in their room or spar on the training dummies in the cellar, while hubby works the forge nearby. The alchemy tower provides a grand view of Lake Ilinalta!

Here are my top three favorite links of the year – things that made me laugh out loud! First off, we have the song ‘Hurt’ being performed by a beloved character…who appears to have a dark side!

Sad Kermit: “Hurt

Next, we have Conan O’Brien with two takes on my well-loved game, Skyrim – enjoy!

Andy Richter’s Skyrim voiceover

Conan O’Brien reviews Skyrim

Finally, here are five great songs to ring in the New Year with – so eat, drink, and be merry! Set aside sadness, hatred and bitterness for just one night. Turn off the TV and the computer, and crank up the stereo with your favorite loud music! Call your family, friends, and loved ones if you’re able, and wish them well. Send them your love. Be glad that you and they are alive to share good fortune and cheer. Lift a glass to those who have passed, and smile at fond memories and moments shared.

Happy fuckin’ New Year!!!!!     😎

Love & Rockets: “So Alive

The Cranberries: “Ode To My Family

AC/DC: “Who Made Who

Alphaville: “Forever Young

Slade: “Here’s To The New Year

“Here’s To… (The New Year)”

Hey lads and lasses come raise up your glasses
Make sure they’re filled up to the hilt
Going on the brink again
Buy me a drink then I’ll show you what’s under my kilt – whoo!
So here’s to the New Year – Here’s to yourself
Cheers to you far and near – Here’s to your health
Hey lads and lasses come raise up your glasses
The parties been rockin’ all day
Going on in midnight and all of us getting tight
Big Ben is bangin’ away
So here’s to the New Year – Here’s to yourself
Cheers to you far and near – Here’s to your health
One more wee toddy and I’m anybody’s
I hope (s)he’s the same over there
We’re gonna let the New Year in
What a noise what a din, all put your hands in the air – c’mon!
So here’s to the New Year – Here’s to yourself
Cheers to you far and near – Here’s to your health
So here’s to the New Year – Here’s to yourself
Cheers to you far and near – Here’s to your health
La, la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la, la-la, la-la…(repeat & fade)

Humor: More Amusing Things!

I love to laugh – I think I’ve mentioned this fact on many occasions! Finding something that tickles my funnybone and has me howling is a treasure and a half, and I value my friends and family members that are happy to oblige my eccentric tastes. With the stress of my recent stay in Alaska, I really needed to be amused – so I searched about and found some of my favorite clips from shows I’ve enjoyed in the past, and still do to the present day.

First off, an oldie but a goodie from Ren & Stimpy, way back when they were only kinda-sorta gay and still allowed to be on Nickelodeon, ROFL: this is the infamous eatin’ parlor for all of you inbred, white-trash types out there!

Next up, three hilarious clips from a great British comedy, The Black Adder. In them, Edmund Blackadder blackmails a bishop, hires a ship, and gets mixed up with the six most evil men in the kingdom!

With all of the news about the Aurora, CO cinema murderer taking place, I’m finding it all to be a massive joke and waste of time. Yes, my heart goes out to all of the victims and their families – the tragedy which has struck their lives cannot be denied – yet, at the same time, I’m filled with cynicism whenever I see an interview or update about it and it would take far too long to explain why. All I know is that I simply need to laugh – so, here is a fantastic take on Batman and his nemesis, The Joker.

Last, but certainly not least, is my favorite Irish redhead, Conan O’ Brien with an extremely hilarious review of my favorite game, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I noted that he played the Xbox version, while I play on my good ol’ PC – go figure!

(and yes – chicks DO play video games, and some of us are hot!) 🙄

Humor: What Amuses Me

My sense of humor is like me – it can’t be pigeonholed.  I find many different things funny, and others are downright hilarious.  Sometimes an extremely ribald statement will have me rolling on the floor, while others will just leave me shaking my head in disbelief.  I don’t understand the popularity of Carlos Mencia or George Lopez, but I enjoy the comedy of Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Conan O’Brien, among others.

Television-wise, I prefer British sitcoms to American ones.  The British comedies tend to be more intellectual, in my opinion – they don’t rub your face in piles of dreck, or beat you over the head with toilet jokes or overtly gratuitous sexual innuendo.  Monty Python: ‘The Holy Grail’ was my first introduction to British humor. I was 12 when I watched it, and thought it was one of the funniest things I’d ever seen.  Time Bandits was another one that had me in fits, and I saw it when I was 14.  Ever since then, I’ve sought out foreign films, TV shows, and comedies more often than ones here in America.  My favorite British shows include The Young Ones, Mr. Bean, Black Adder, Absolutely Fabulous, One Foot In the Grave, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, and The League of Gentlemen.

This doesn’t mean that I don’t like American comedies as well; I do, but there just aren’t many out there that tickle my fancy, on the whole.  Thank goodness for reruns – I can still find channels that air Frasier, Bernie Mac, Malcolm in the Middle, Girlfriends, and Cheers.  I love the animated comedies like The Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy, American Dad, and Futurama.  Cartoon Network also has their ‘Adult Swim’ lineup, which offers such gems as The Venture Brothers, Metalocalypse, Robot Chicken, and Assy McGee, as well as their late-night Saturday anime showings.  Still, it would be nice to see something, somewhere, that isn’t filled with thinly-veiled racism against non-white people!
