Creeping Up on the New Year…

’tis just around the corner!

😎

Eyrie Of An Aries

New Year’s Eve is a couple of days away, so I’m getting a proper post ready for it – out with the old, in with the new! Although, I fear that 2017 will be more of the same as we had in 2016…but far worse for many of us here in the USA. It is what it is, though! Poop doth occur – over, and over, and over again!

Here are three good songs for this Thursday. It’s time for my workout! Afterwards, I’m going to make a nice pot of chicken soup – after showering, of course – then it will be time for a bit of gaming, which will be live-streamed if no glitches happen. Otherwise, I’ll try to capture some footage and share it via screen-shots or YouTube…whichever one I can get to work correctly, LOL! Talk at you all later…

Tuesday Tidbits…13 December 2016

It’s a particularly awesome day, today! It’s a special one – why, you may ask? Because it is, that’s why! That should be good enough, I’d wager. I’ll give a little hint, though: it’s a day celebrated annually by some, and involves the giving of gifts and toasting good fortune, and the gift that I have is one that I’ve needed and wanted for some time! Anything that keeps me in fighting trim is necessary, and the garbage advertised on television leaves much to be desired – I’ve yet to see my machine advertised anywhere, personally; and it is a brand that has been around for 20 years or more. Yes, I’m now the proud owner of a circuit-training home gym and couldn’t be happier! Free-weights, kettle-bells, and ellipticals are fine and dandy, but my ideal workout has always included a “universal” machine – and, best of all, I don’t have to go to a stinky, sweaty, germ-filled “fitness center!” How anyone can stand those places is beyond me…seriously, every single time I tried to have a membership in any sort of health club, I would get sick within a week no matter how much I cleaned the machines before and after I used them. I didn’t pay to get sick, I paid to work-out, but muscle-heads and cheese-cakes were too busy primping and posing on the machines instead of using them, so they were a waste of my time and money, LOL! Exercising in the peace, quiet, and comfort of my own home is best for me.

It’s cold out there, but I don’t mind because I was able to see the beautiful moon last night, and should be able to see it again tonight when it reaches complete fullness. Clear skies means colder weather, but the sunshine is very refreshing after what seems like a straight month and a half of clouds, rain, hail, snow, and nearly every other type of precipitation you can imagine, except for sleet! Gotta bundle up before walking on the beach…

Time for some music, and I have to do some cooking! Beef stew for lunch, game hens for dinner…the only thing that sucks about cooking is the cleaning and prepping, but it’s still worth it. Talk to ya later, gators!

The Black Cat, Blue Sea Award!!!

I’d never heard of this award before – it’s fresh and brand-new, for me! I don’t even own a cat; but, I do live on the Washington coast, five minutes away (by bicycle) from the mighty Pacific Ocean.

Rules:
1. Anybody nominated can nominate eight other bloggers – but, you can’t nominate the person who nominated you!
2. The nominee answers three questions posed by the nominator.
3. The questions you ask in the nomination can be any three questions, about anything that you choose.*
4. If any of the questions asked are perceived to be offensive to the nominee; or the nominee simply does not want to answer, the nominee isn’t required to answer them.*

Questions posed to me, and my answers:
1. Which is worse, living the rest of your life poor or alone?
I would say that living poor is far worse than living alone. Also, ‘poor’ to me means more than material possessions or great wealth – a person can have a poor spirit; a poor outlook on life, or treat others quite poorly, from what I’ve seen – and, being alone doesn’t mean being lonely.

2. Do you think giving to charity makes someone a good person?
No. Giving, again, entails more than making a financial donation. One must give of themselves. Time. Energy. Real, physical efforts to enact real change in the lives of others. Those are far more valuable than giving money to some agency that merely spends said money on guilt-inducing advertisements.

3. What makes you think the world still has good in it?
Plenty of things! The five images below should answer this question succinctly:

*Caveat: many blogs that I follow are “award-free,” so they are under no obligation to acknowledge or accept this award. In light of this, I have chosen not to list the questions I’d ask of them…I prefer to speak with, and query the bloggers whom I follow, directly!

Happy Belated Birthday, Mrs. Obama

Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama: 17 January 1964

Michelle Obama, the First Lady of the USA, turned 50 years old on Friday, 17 January. She is married to Barack Obama, who is the 44th (and current) President of the USA.

She has been under attack and under a microscope from the day her husband stated that he was running for the highest office in this country, yet has comported herself with exceptional grace and dignity. She is the mother of two teenaged daughters, Malia and Natasha (Sasha), and puts them first on her list of priorities, as any good mother would.

The hateful, ugly, and racist comments about her have been shocking, to say the least. Laura Bush was a plastic-faced freak who killed someone with her car; her daughters were sleazy bimbos, yet even mentioning those things was supposedly an attack on the entire Bush family. Michelle has been called an ‘angry Black woman’ for being passionate over things that mean a lot to her, and a ‘terrorist’ for a misconstrued statement she made about her feelings for this country. Oh, let’s not forget the infamous, ‘terrorist fist-bump’ she shared with her husband – the unmitigated gall! Michelle’s desire for good health and exemplary education for all children has made certain people claim that she’s “got some insidious agenda!” or she’s “forcing drinking water down our throats!” or even “telling us all what to eat!”

I admit to being proud of a First Lady that I can relate to – a tall, attractive, intelligent and educated Black woman and mother. One who shares my complexion. One with a heritage that is a testament to the complex and layered history of this country. I know how it feels to have cruel, evil, hateful and spiteful things said about me by frightened, envious, ignorant and inbred white trash. When I did a search for images of the First Lady, I became irritated at frustrated at the twisted, disgusting, photo-shopped images that had been created and posted by racist fucktards. There are far too many people out there who are simply terrified at the fact that some lily-white WASP isn’t the Commander-in-Chief, and will do (and say) anything to discredit and malign him and his family. Do I agree with every single one of his policies? Nope – not at all. President Obama has approved some pretty heinous things during his term, but nothing that is much different or worse than any other president before him. Seriously, think: Some of the first presidents of this country were slave-owners who imprisoned and raped young girls. They were men who slaughtered groups of men, women, and children by claiming ‘manifest destiny.’ Drone-strikes are the new massacres, don’t ya know?

* SIGH *

I’m getting off-topic, so I will close with this: If you hate the President, fine – do so for real reasons, not contrived rumours spouted off by wingnut conspiracy theorists. Attacking his family, especially his young daughters, is really fucked-up…psychotic behavior, if you will. The interwebs are full of the unhinged, for sure!

Happy belated birthday, Mrs. Obama. I wish there had been a role model like yourself during my formative years – I wouldn’t have felt like an anomaly.

Idle Musings…

Sitting here with a cup of coffee, listening to the radio and watching rain fall. It’s nice to be able to see the seasons change – we get all four around here! The leaves are turning color and falling everywhere…and clogging up the gutters! Damned maintenance people haven’t gotten around to cleaning them out. Ah, to have a house and worry about such trivial nonsense! Bitching about the gutters, the lawn, and fixing the damned hole in the back fence…that will be grand. Soon, soon…all things in their time, and one step at a time towards high-minded, far-reaching goals.

We took a nice Sunday drive up the Columbia River Gorge (yes, in a CAR – LMAO) and had a nice brunch. We were celebrating some milestones and a couple of personal victories, and gearing up for the next few battles to come! I’m not complaining, either – we’re making things happen and getting things done…it’s all good. The brunch consisted of champagne and seafood, prime rib and salmon lox, tobiko and caviar, and the best damned Eggs Benedict I’ve had in a while. And a chocolate crème brulee! I’d never had one before, and it was decadent and divine…so smooth. I enjoy a good meal and can sit for an hour at a table, snacking and sampling – I was called a hedonist once, and I laugh at that label. If enjoying food, music, and sex makes me a hedonist, then so be it! “I apologize for nothing!” as Hedonism-Bot proclaimed on Futurama, LOL – and seriously, think about it: a good book, a full five-course meal, and a grand piece of music of any genre is like making love.

One has to use all of their senses when engaging in those activities…for instance, when I hear a good song, I want to absorb it. I want it to be a part of me. I deconstruct it each time I hear it, picking each separate instrument out and locating every note. I want to memorize every drumbeat and guitar riff; I want to hear the lead vocals and then pick out the harmonizing, supporting singers. I want to know all of the lyrics and revel in whatever they mean to me. It’s like a mechanic stripping a car down and then putting it back together: that’s what I do with songs. It’s a process that I’ve done for as long as I can remember, sort of like with reading…I’ve been reading for so long that I have no memory or concept of what it was like to not be able to read. I can’t comprehend illiteracy but I understand dyslexia – go figure. Anyway…

What was I talking about? Ah, yes…good music, great sex, good books and delicious, nutritious food – good things! It helps to identify foods that nourish your body, mind, and spirit and don’t harm you: naturally-grown and produced things, not pre-packaged, mass-produced crap. For instance, there was a story on the morning news about the ‘energy’ drink, Monster, and some pending lawsuit. Personally, I think ALL of those things need to be evaluated and analyzed! I tried some Red Bull when it first came out, and that crap gave me palpitations. I felt ill after drinking it; I couldn’t even finish the whole can. It has a disgusting taste, too – how can anyone stand to consume it? There are natural sources of energy right in your own body! One way to boost your metabolism is through exercise, and toning the larger muscles in the body is one of the best ways to do so. Muscle tissue burns more calories than fatty tissue, even at rest. You also don’t need to go overboard with a fitness regimen to stay in shape – one hour per day, six days per week, is plenty. A healthy body is part of the key to maintaining a healthy mind, too.

I’m just rambling this morning…nothing really on my mind; the weather is cooler and it’s time to settle in and hibernate. The fireplace is ready for the first burn of the year, so it’s time to split some kindling and bring in some of the cured logs from the garage. I love curling up in front of the fire with a cup of coffee and a good book! Speaking of which, my cup is empty and calling for a refill. I shall return later in the week…in the meantime, enjoy these songs.
