David Bowie (b. David Robert Jones): 8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016
Today marks the birth anniversary of the late, great David Bowie, who was taken far too soon on 10 January 2016. He was one of few celebrities that I respected, admired, and hoped to meet in person, just once. His music was epic, and I never tired of hearing his songs being played – whether they were new songs or familiar, favourite tunes.
In a little tribute to him, I decided to post 10 excellent Bowie songs that I always enjoy whenever they come on the radio. The station “Deep Tracks,” on Sirius XM, is also going to do a “head-trip” special dedicated to him. I’m looking forward to hearing some songs that I may not have heard before, as that station is known for playing some of the more obscure hits that never got over-played on…

Here are the rules for this award: 1. Link back to the person who nominated you.
2. Answer the questions within, with words AND music.
3. Pass the award to 5 bloggers who inspire you with posts about music.
4. Tag your post with #MWA, for Music & Words Award so we can all follow you down the line.
5. List these rules in your post.
So, here are the questions.
WHAT DOES MUSIC MEAN TO YOU?
Everything…music is life, it is emotion, and it conveys depth of thought and mood when words fail. This instrumental by Pink Floyd, titled “Signs of Life,” is one of many which does so for me.
WHAT IS YOUR FIRST MUSIC RELATED MEMORY?
I was laying underneath a grand piano while someone played it beautifully – I watched feet working the pedals and listened to how they changed the tone of the song. I think that I was 3 or 4 years old, then…
WHAT’S THE FIRST ALBUM YOU’VE PURCHASED YOURSELF?
Adam & the Ants: “Kings of the Wild Frontier” and “Prince Charming.” I was probably the only person in my tiny school who liked Adam & the Ants, and I was soundly mocked by everyone I knew! I never understood why my taste in music was something to be made fun of, especially when those same people marveled at my knowledge of Black Sabbath, Quiet Riot, Jethro Tull, and many other bands. I realized that they were limited and expected the same of me…and I will never allow myself to be limited by others. Ever. The song “Prince Charming” sums it up!
WHAT IS THE LATEST MUSIC YOU’VE PURCHASED? (NO ONLINE STREAMING OR FREE DOWNLOADS – I’M TALKING ABOUT CASH HERE!)
The Best of David Bowie and Blackstar by…the late, great, ever-missed David Bowie. I love the song “Lazarus” – the saxophone speaks eloquently.
WHAT SONG DID YOU LISTEN TO LAST? (NO CHEATING – COME OUT WITH THE GUILTY PLEASURES, AND BE HONEST!)
“The Voice” by the Moody Blues…it is, always has been, and always will be one of my top favourite songs.
My nominees:
The rules say to nominate 5 other bloggers, but I think that everyone that I wish to nominate has an “award-free” blog. Anyone who reads this post and wishes to participate may do so…just follow the rules to the best of your ability, please!
XD
Hey all! I just wanted to post a short update while my computer is cooperating with me…I’m not going to question it, I’m just rolling with it.
*knocks on the wooden desk*
If I haven’t given details about my computer issues, here’s what’s going on: I needed to upgrade my video card and was finally able to do so. The problem is, I need to upgrade my motherboard, processor, and plan on getting a Solid-State Dual-Drive (SSDD) to boost the speed. So the new card is awesome, and when it works it works like a dream. The only gaming issues I have now, are when the battlefields are full and the population is locked in PvP-land…that’s when the dreaded ‘lag-monster’ hits, LOL!
I hope to have the computer completely overhauled and upgraded by the end of the month, but I’m also setting money aside for an ass-kicking concert in February…BLACK SABBATH with OZZY OSBOURNE at the TACOMA DOME!!!!! I have the tickets and the hotel already, but I want at least one t-shirt, and those will be pricey as all get-out! It’s all about prioritizing, ya know?
😉
I now have 176 followers, which means that I’m following 176 blogs. With my computer acting up, some blogs take quite a while to load, while some make my system bog down or crash completely – so some blogs will be harder for me to read, or even ‘like’ for the time being. But that doesn’t mean I’m not reading when I can! I’m still here and reading, so hey – keep up the great writing and postings, everyone; I’m still “lurking,” at the very least! I’m working on an awards post, too, so you’ll be feeling the love soon enough – probably more than you want!
😀
…I just wanted to share Conan O’Brien’s touching tribute to David Bowie on his show the other night. The first two clips will surely make you smile or laugh out loud, as I did…and the third will certainly have you weeping, as I did.
R.I.P., David…I wish that I could have met you in person, just once.
