A Tale of Computer Techs

So, here’s the continuing saga of my computer issues and attempting to deal with techs who can’t (or won’t) fix what’s going on. If your eyes bleed at the sight of profanity, you might want to stop reading right now!

Recapping what has happened so far:

I had a “Franken-puter” rig, probably 6 years old, that finally gave up the ghost back in August. Before that it was showing signs of imminent failure, much like a vehicle that has too many miles under its wheels. I got my data retrieved, including many travel photos, in-game screen-shots, and tons of documents which include drafts of short stories and my in-progress, nearly completed, autobiography. I requested another all-in-one rig which could do everything that my old one did, as I enjoy gaming and wanted to continue recording gaming sessions, as well as scheduling live-streams of my game-play on evenings and some weekends. Unfortunately, the new rig has some issue, either with the CPU, the GPU, or a combination of both. The lame excuse given to me was: “Oh, it must be an issue with the Plays.TV program…some people have had problems using it, so we’ll do some research.” The only thing their so-called research came up with were issues that some people had – back in February of 2015. The issues with in-game recording, for me, started right after I brought the new rig home – in August of this year, just three months ago – so Plays.TV isn’t the issue. So, the next excuse was, “Oh, just download Open Broadcasting Software (OBS) – that should work.” I said, “Wait a second…you can’t tell me why that program isn’t working, so you want to download something else that isn’t going to function properly? Something that will just cause MORE issues?!?” Their response: “Well, it’s always good to have options…” I said, “The only option I will be happy with is you solving the problem, not compounding it!” My comment appeared to go in one ear and out the other, no matter how many times I reiterated my desire for them to fix the internal issue of the computer.

Also, I noted that the components that I’d specifically requested to be installed hadn’t been used, supposedly due to the cost of the two components. The components that I desired, specifically, were the Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6500 3.2 GHz processor, and the NVidia GeForce GTX 950 graphics card (2GB, GDDR5, 3.0). I was originally going to settle for a GTX 750, but the 950 is superior, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. At any rate, according to the computer techs, both components cost $1k – and that figure is complete and utter bullshit! Cost of the CPU I listed? $205. Cost of the GPU? $190. Where in the ever-living FUCK does the price of $1K come in? My math might not be perfect, since I barely passed basic Algebra back in high school, but seriously…I know for a fact that 205 + 190 doesn’t even come CLOSE to 1,000! Hell, it doesn’t even come close to HALF of 1,000, which is 500 – so where the hell do they come up with such an exorbitant figure? Even some of the better gaming rigs out there can be bought for as low as $850, with the exact same components I listed, so…? I’m not sure what type of scam they’re running at that shop, but I’m definitely not pleased. Then again, there are a lot of business owners and operators out there, who convince themselves that their customers are blithering idiots or complete morons who know nothing. So charming to discover that these jackasses think that way about me! It isn’t the first time that it’s happened in my life, and probably won’t be the last – so don’t be surprised when I say that I prefer to buy things online, LOL!

So, as we speak, the hubster has gone to “the ‘Couv” to see if he can speak to them and get some resolution for this issue, because I’m done. I hate speaking to people who refuse to listen, and mindlessly repeat themselves whilst offering nothing. It’s annoying as hell, I can tell you that! We’ll see if anything is done today, or if I just have to purchase my rig online and get a separate, external hard-drive for my documents and other stuff. Stay tuned for the next part (or end of) this vile, foul saga!

In the meantime – music!

Midweek Musings…19 October 2016

Just a few of my random ramblings and myriad musings, midweek:

1. I’m going to watch tonight’s debate, because it’s necessary. I won’t do a drinking game, however, because I think that I would be completely plastered after about 15 minutes! Knowing who the moderator is, and the ‘special guests’ who will be present, this debate will probably go down in history as the absolutely worst one ever…and the first two were bad enough!

2. Speaking of debates, I wonder why some people convince themselves that they engage in ‘debates’ on their blogs, FB pages, or Twitter feeds? There is no way to ‘win’ a debate online, even if you actually utilize a proper debating forum. A ‘proper’ debating forum, to me, is one which contains two people with opposing views, and one or two moderators, taking turns with their statements and rebuttals, face-to-face…with no interruptions or commentary from the respective audience until after the debate is over. Also, a debate should reach an audience with a basic interest, and knowledge, of whatever the debate topic is, it would seem. Making an argument in an echo chamber defeats the purpose of said argument, no? Online, presumably, a proper debate would be done via Skype or whatever other live-video-feed program exists out there. Still, Loki’s Wager will prevail in the long run!

3. I’m personally debating whether or not to pursue legal action against the company that put my computer together, or just not worry about it. I’m beyond done dealing with those clueless asshats, and I’m not the litigious sort – I’d rather just put my money into a brand-new rig and forget about those pricks. That’s the simplest and most cost-effective solution, I feel.

Finally, here are a couple of select clips for your enjoyment…have a great rest of the day and evening, everyone!

Storms On the Shore!!!

Hey all! Sorry for the late post, but unstable weather has been causing minor issues with the electricity. Also, my computer has been giving me a hassle, which is what frustrated the hell out of me yesterday – dealing with the computer techs has been a major exercise in futility! They refuse to acknowledge that there is some flawed component in my computer, which is causing the crashing and freezing issues I experience while gaming – whether I attempt to record a gaming session or live-stream, or not. I’m currently using what is supposed to be our ‘backup’ computer, and it’s running far better than mine is! Guess what? It even records and streams gaming sessions just fine – so there is obviously an issue in my main rig.

I was all ready to post a spleen-venting, expletive-filled, post of hatred towards condescending douchebags…but, waking up to the sound of thunder this morning soothed my mood. I will do a post about my ineffective dealings with the computer techs, but will try to do so in an amusing way! I’ve been inspired by a couple of bloggers who inject much humour in their writings and posts, and wanted to try to put a funny spin on something that has been exceptionally annoying and frustrating. I do my best to have backup plans in case things go wrong…it helps to be prepared for any possible eventuality.

The morning thunderstorms were very nice to wake up to…although, I understand that while I was enjoying the flashes of lightning and feeling, and hearing, the roll of thunder, the coastal town of Manzanita, down in Oregon, had a fairly sizeable tornado! The remnants of a typhoon are the cause, to my knowledge. Still, I love thunderstorms and wild weather…I’m what you would call a ceraunophile, LOL!

The wind is starting to kick up again, so I’ll keep this post short and sign off. It’s going to be a wild weekend! Hopefully the power stays on…I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Also, I hope that I can get some nice shots of the ocean after tomorrow’s storm blows through! The waters will look awesome, I think; I stepped out on the porch earlier, after everything had finally calmed down, and just listened to the roaring of the ocean…it was nice.

Also, I wanted to note that tomorrow is the night of the Hunter’s Full Moon (in Aries, no less!), as well as the Perigean Spring Tide…the overcast skies will prevent me from seeing the moon, but its effects are definitely being felt!

Midweek Musings…27 January 2016

I’ve had a few thoughts percolating in my head for some time; now that the Mercury retrograde transit is over, it just might be safe to throw them out into the blog-o-sphere!

First, my opinion about the current political atmosphere here in the States:

Trump is a racist, fascist, neo-nazi asshole who is only supported by the same ilk. Get a fucking clue, people – he has WHITE SUPREMACIST GROUPS ROBO-CALLING YOU FOR YOUR VOTE. If that isn’t obvious, then you’re hopeless. And you have the nerve to call President Obama the same, or worse, for saying or doing far less than Trump does…yeah, your state of mind speaks volumes. Go smoke meth with Palin and screech incoherent lies while you’re at it! Trump is an internet troll come to life, being a ringmaster and dancing his puppets around – he’s not presidential material.

• I have a question for those of you who are “feelin’ the Bern” and have jumped on the Sanders bandwagon: Please tell me how campaign finance reform helps me, today, right now. That should be discussed and worked on BETWEEN campaigns, not during, no? I find it amusing, too, that a lot of his supporters are under the age of 25…the same people who look at me and say that I’m “old” or “out-of-touch,” even though I’m only 10 years their senior. If you think that I’m old and out-of-touch, how is a 75-year-old fossil saying anything new? Newsflash, kiddies: an idea or “talking point” isn’t new, just because you haven’t heard it before. Plenty of things have been said before you were born – that’s what libraries and archives are for. Use them! Limiting yourself to “interwebs-only” research does you a great disservice.

• Can the misogyny and woman-bashing towards Ms. Clinton stop, already? Seriously. Benghazi was (and apparently still is) a huge distraction and waste of time, as are the emails. Her husband’s past infidelity is just that – PAST. She chose to forgive him and move on, which is her right as the wronged spouse. He isn’t running for president now, as he already served two terms – so get over it, people.

• Martin O’Malley is a nice change of pace, if only due to the fact that he isn’t using the same stale talking-points and buzzwords that his opponents are – but, his “All lives matter” remark still sticks in my craw. He might make a decent VP, if nothing else.

Next, just a small rant about socializing online:

• I hate it when people “un-friend” me in-game, especially due to a misunderstanding that they chose to take personally – what makes it worse is that it was instigated by a third party! I despise manipulative people, yet they seem to control the social activities of nearly everyone they have in their respective guilds. I’ve been called ‘n00b’ and been accused of being “butt-hurt” for asking a genuine, straightforward question, and been insulted and disrespected for nothing. Meanwhile, the zone-trolls, shit-talkers, manipulators and wh0res gain popularity by association, and monopolize the PvP groups shamelessly. It’s amazing: people claim that they don’t like being used or lied to, and can’t stand drama, yet they gravitate to those types like bees to honey. I know – I should look at it as “flies to shit,” because that’s essentially what it is…but I still get frustrated. I’m worth knowing, even if I don’t shove a camera up my cooze!

• I’m contemplating a GoFundMe site…other people get donations, so why shouldn’t I? I’m not the only one who would benefit from the generosity and/or kindness of strangers, so at least I’m not being selfish in my thoughts!

I’m glad that my late-night shows are back with new episodes. Trevor, Larry, Stephen, and Conan keep me laughing through all of the political nonsense and general, senseless bullshit that occurs daily. I placed a few, choice links throughout this post – sort of like a comedy scavenger hunt! I hope that you found them and enjoyed them, LOL

Well, that’s it for now. I’m getting some other posts done between the 5 – 10 daily computer crashes, which include two awards posts, a quote challenge, and some long-overdue gaming fan-fiction! I will also be doing some final testing of my live-streaming Twitch channel, including a viewing schedule in case anyone out there wants to watch and give some feedback on the viewing quality. I’d appreciate it!

Last, but not least…R.I.P., Abe – I remember “Fish.”

Thursday Thoughts…

Hey all! I just wanted to post a short update while my computer is cooperating with me…I’m not going to question it, I’m just rolling with it.
*knocks on the wooden desk*

If I haven’t given details about my computer issues, here’s what’s going on: I needed to upgrade my video card and was finally able to do so. The problem is, I need to upgrade my motherboard, processor, and plan on getting a Solid-State Dual-Drive (SSDD) to boost the speed. So the new card is awesome, and when it works it works like a dream. The only gaming issues I have now, are when the battlefields are full and the population is locked in PvP-land…that’s when the dreaded ‘lag-monster’ hits, LOL!

I hope to have the computer completely overhauled and upgraded by the end of the month, but I’m also setting money aside for an ass-kicking concert in February…BLACK SABBATH with OZZY OSBOURNE at the TACOMA DOME!!!!! I have the tickets and the hotel already, but I want at least one t-shirt, and those will be pricey as all get-out! It’s all about prioritizing, ya know?
😉

I now have 176 followers, which means that I’m following 176 blogs. With my computer acting up, some blogs take quite a while to load, while some make my system bog down or crash completely – so some blogs will be harder for me to read, or even ‘like’ for the time being. But that doesn’t mean I’m not reading when I can! I’m still here and reading, so hey – keep up the great writing and postings, everyone; I’m still “lurking,” at the very least! I’m working on an awards post, too, so you’ll be feeling the love soon enough – probably more than you want!
😀

I’ll close with a song, just because.

Musical Monday…

I’m babying my computer, willing it to not crash and burn as I work on the very long, long overdue awards posts and quote challenges that I received in December! In the meantime, please enjoy these three songs…it’s my first musical interlude of 2016!
😀
