Let’s See, Now…

You’re bothered, angered, and outraged over this:

…but you could give a shit less over this:

…this:

…or this.

If you’re of this mindset, do me a favor: don’t talk to me. Your earth-shattering stupidity and hypocrisy might be a transmittable disease.

Here’s the list of places to donate to or volunteer at, should you wish to help your fellow Americans in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Random Ramblings; Myriad Musings

Happy Friday, everyone! I’ve selected five excerpts from my fan-fiction-related short story for today’s installment of my “Five on Friday” posts, in preparation for a more regular schedule of my writings. I also added a few new screen-shots for the viewing enjoyment of all!

I hope that your respective weekends are off to a great start. Mine certainly is!

😎

Festivities: This excerpt details some of the goings-on during a celebratory dinner.

Comeuppance: Revenge is a dish best served cold, as detailed in this brief tale.

Seclusion: Self-driven solitude is a necessity, at times – for the protection of others, as well as oneself.

The Wild Hunt: A cure for an illness comes in an unexpected ritual.

The Entertainer: Confidence can be earned, and learned, from the most obscure sources.

Full Frontal Thursday: Sports, The Federalist Society, and MORE Sports!

This fake Facebook profile is one of many that have been discovered during the investigation over Russian meddling in U.S. politics

In this installment of “Full Frontal Thursday,” Sam reminds us that Drumpf the Divider is using the #takeaknee NFL protests to distract his mindless, rabid followers from the fact that he, himself, isn’t doing his job. Also, she reveals the Federalist Society and the ways that it produces and promotes shitty, future judges and SCOTUS members.

North Korea, the people of Puerto Rico, and – oh yeah – the irrefutable FACTS that fake profiles are rampant on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other “social” media platforms, are still quite relevant. There is an ongoing investigation about those Russian-paid ads, but plenty want to keep their heads imbedded in the sand…or, elsewhere!

One final note: those who think that multiple selfies on blog or a Facebook page makes you more relevant and “real” are those who are creating, or easily fooled by, fake profiles!

Katherine G. Johnson Computational Facility Opens at NASA Langley Research Center

GOOD BLACK NEWS

via 11alive.com

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) — An American treasure is being honored in Hampton. A new facility at the NASA Langley Research Center is named after Katherine Johnson. She’s the woman featured in the movie “Hidden Figures” for her inspiring work at NASA Langley. People knew the mathematician as a “human computer” who calculated America’s first space flights in the 1960s. “I liked what I was doing, I liked work,” said Katherine.

The 99-year-old worked for NASA at a time when it was extremely difficult for African-Americans — especially women — to get jobs in the science field. “My problem was to answer questions, and I did that to the best of my ability at all time,” said Katherine. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015. She said, “I was excited for something new. Always liked something new.” U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, Virginia GovernorTerry McAuliffe

Hurricane Maria: Here’s How to Help Victims in the Ravaged Caribbean

GOOD BLACK NEWS

RICARDO ARDUENGO/AFP/GETTY

by Jason Duaine Hahn via people.com

On early Wednesday, Hurricane Maria made landfall on the 100-mile-long island of Puerto Rico, causing such tremendous damage with its 155-mph winds that it knocked out power for all 3.5 million residents.

Maria killed at least nine people on Dominica before it moved to Puerto Rico, where it toppled trees, tore roofs from buildings, and damaged reservoirs and rivers that—along with heavy rain—have caused severe flooding.

Though the hurricane is expected to move toward the Dominican Republic late Wednesday, Puerto Rico and Dominica will feel the effects of the storm for a long time to come. This comes just two weeks after ferocious Hurricane Irma destroyed much of the U.S. Virgin Islands and killed three people in Puerto Rico.

If you’d like to help out in helping victims of the storm, here some verified organizations assisting in the efforts.

Happy Hobbit Day!

For fans of Middle-Earth and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, today marks Hobbit Day! From Days of the Year:

September 22nd is the Birthday of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, two characters from J.R.R. Tolkien’s popular Middle Earth Cycle books (The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings respectively) in which Hobbits, typically between two and four feet tall and nothing like your usual ‘hero’, accomplish great feats and amazing acts of courage. It is in honour of these creatures and those acts that the day is celebrated with events not unlike the birthday party described in the beginning of “The Fellowship of the Ring”.

In the United States Hobbit Day has gained some measure of legal dignity due to the elected officials who support the day and the goals of the American Tolkien Society.”
