Random Thoughts and Songs…

I sit today

Listening to music

Various lyrics move me

I jump from song to song

And come across this…

Dion: “Abraham, Martin & John” (lyrics at the end of this post)

…I watch the video

And see

Hatred from

A mere decade before my birth

The symbolic lynching of the NAACP

Reminds me

Of the rage towards Obama

How other Black people feel

The way I do about the NAACP

“They (he) weren’t (wasn’t) there for me

When I faced discrimination and hate

Why should I support you (him)

When you overlook my (our) pain?”

Selfish thoughts from a juvenile mind

Age brings wisdom but

I’m not too old

And I’m not too young

But no-one hears my pleas

For understanding

For recognition

No-one listens to

Me…

Dion  – Abraham, Martin & John lyrics

“Has anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?
Can you tell me where he’s gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.
You know, I just looked around and he’s gone.

Anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he’s gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.
I just looked around and he’s gone.

Anybody here seen my old friend Martin?
Can you tell me where he’s gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.
I just looked ’round and he’s gone.

Didn’t you love the things that they stood for?
Didn’t they try to find some good for you and me?
And we’ll be free
Some day soon, and it’s a-gonna be one day …

Anybody here seen my old friend Bobby?
Can you tell me where he’s gone?
I thought I saw him walkin’ up over the hill,
With Abraham, Martin and John.”
