Lá Fhéile Pádraig 2013!!!

This past week and the upcoming one promise to be hellaciously busy, so I’m sending out my St. Patrick’s Day greetings in advance – Lá Fhéile Pádraig! Yes, I have Irish kin out in the world somewhere; I can’t say I care if they accept me or not, any more than I care if my Black kin or Blackfoot Native kin accept me – I yams what I yams!     😎

On a side note, I’m on hiatus for a spell…not for too long, but it may be the first week in April before I’m able to post again! I’ll be a busy little bee but it’s all for good reason – so, for those of you who actually like what I do here, fear not…I shall return! I just might even have some awesome new things to talk about, and won’t that be grand? Also, I’m on my week-long birthday celebration which always starts on St. Paddy’s Day and ends within a day or so of when I first emerged into this world…so yeah, I just might have a bit of a hangover here or there!

Take it easy all, and have a happy and safe St. Patrick’s Day – don’t drink too much green beer, and send any naughty leprechauns in my direction…I know how to school them with my shillelagh!     😀

Enjoy these various songs…

Seven Drunken Nights

U2: “In God’s Country

Enya: “Orinoco Flow / Sail Away

The Cranberries: “Free To Decide

“Free To Decide”

It’s not worth anything more than what’s going on
I live as I choose
Or I will not live very long
So return to where you come from
Return to where you dwell
Because harassment’s not my forte
but you do it very well
I’m free to decide, I’m free to decide
And I’m not so suicidal after all
I’m free to decide, I’m free to decide
And I’m not so suicidal after all, At all, at all, at all
You must have nothing more with your time to do
There’s a war in Russia
and in Sarajevo too
So to hell with what you’re thinking
and to hell with your narrow mind
You’re so distracted from the real thing
You should leave your life behind, behind
‘Cause I’m free to decide, I’m free to decide
And I’m not so suicidal after all
I’m free to decide, I’m free to decide
And I’m not so suicidal after all, At all, at all, at all
I’m free to decide, I’m free to decide
And I’m not so suicidal after all, At all, at all, at all

R.I.P., Clive Burr

Clive Burr: 8 March 1957 – 12 March 2013

Wow…yet ANOTHER name from a band I loved in my “teens-ages” has taken that stairway to the music chamber / recording studio in the sky – Clive Burr, the drummer on the first three Iron Maiden albums recently passed away. He died on 12 March after suffering from multiple sclerosis for many years. BBC News reports:

“Former Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr has died at the age of 56 after suffering from multiple sclerosis.

Steve Harris, the heavy metal band’s founder and bass player, said it was “terribly sad news” in an announcement on the group’s website.

“He was a wonderful person and an amazing drummer who made a valuable contribution to Maiden in the early days when we were starting out.”

Burr joined Iron Maiden in 1979 and played on their first three albums.

Lead singer Bruce Dickinson also paid tribute, saying: “Even during the darkest days of his MS, Clive never lost his sense of humour or irreverence.”

Burr played on the band’s debut album Iron Maiden (1980), Killers (1981) and their number one 1982 album The Number of the Beast…

Born in 1957 in east London, Burr was a member of British metal band Samson before joining Iron Maiden.

“I first met Clive when he was leaving Samson and joining Iron Maiden,” said Dickinson. “He was a great guy and a man who really lived his life to the full.”

Burr left the band in December 1982, just as they were about to become a global stadium headliner.

When he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2001, his former Maiden bandmates formed the Clive Burr MS Trust Fund to help raise money for his living costs.

They performed a number of concerts in his honour when he struggled to keep up payments on his house.”

I got into “hardcore” music, which I later learned was called “heavy metal”, at the tender age of 8(!!!). Why, you may ask? Simple:

  • As the indentured servant / “boughten coloured child” of privileged whites, I carried much anger and resentment inside. I supposedly was “adopted as a daughter,” but that changed overnight when I was seven years of age… “little sister” came along and “Mummy Dearest” emerged!
  • The 8-track cassettes available on the boat were an interesting mix – The Beatles Greatest Hits, KISS Double Platinum, Ferrante & Tiecher’s Soundtracks, Jonathan Livingston Seagull (ORIGINAL audiobooks, LOL), Seals & Crofts, and George Benson. Yes, I lived upon the water while “Mr. Milquetoast” built a fish hatchery from the ground up!

I love the heavy metal genre and fly a big middle finger to anyone who says, thinks, or feels that “It’s not RIGHT for YOU to enjoy THAT SORT of MUSIC!!!” I would get so fucking pissed when I wasn’t allowed to wear my Mötley Crüe, Iron Maiden, or Black Sabbath t-shirts to school… “That is NOT appropriate attire for a young lady to wear!” was the screechy shriek from “mummy dearest’s” thin lips, yet she wouldn’t bat an eyelash over what her boys or girl wore. Typical hypocrisy from a racist fucktard! In case you were wondering, here is the specific Iron Maiden shirt that caused her so much distress:

Digressing…I was angry and listened to angry music. I love the wailing guitars and the pounding drums; the jagged basslines and the violent imagery. When I like a song, ANY SONG, I will listen to it over and over again…I take it apart in my mind and listen to every individual instrument to learn where they land. I delve into the lyrics and burn them into my brain. I memorize every little infinitesimal piece! Then I put it all back together and…it’s in me. I’ve absorbed it into my being and it resides there for eternity.

Words fail me at the moment…Clive, you were one of the best – you are in excellent company with the legends that preceded you. Following are my three favourite songs by this legendary band…enjoy my darker side, won’t you?     😎

Iron Maiden: “Flight of Icarus

Iron Maiden: “Killers

Iron Maiden: “Run to the Hills

“Run To The Hills”

White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes killed our creed
He took our game for his own need
We fought him hard we fought him well
Out on the plains we gave him hell
But many came too much for Cree
Oh will we ever be set free?
Riding through dust clouds and barren wastes
Galloping hard on the plains
Chasing the redskins back to their holes
Fighting them at their own game
Murder for freedom the stab in the back
Women and children are cowards attack
Run to the hills, run for your lives
Run to the hills, run for your lives
Soldier blue in the barren wastes
Hunting and killing their game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good Indians are tame
Selling them whiskey and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old
Run to the hills, run for your lives
[repeat to end]

R.I.P., Peter Banks

Peter Banks: 15 July 1947 – 8 March 2013

Another maker of beautiful music passed away recently. Peter Banks, original guitarist and one of the founders of the British progressive-rock band Yes, was found dead in his home of heart failure. More from USA Today:

“Original Yes guitarist Peter Banks died Thursday in his home in London. The musician’s website listed his cause of death as heart failure and said he was found after failing to appear for a recording session. He was 65.

Banks, who had previously played with bassist Chris Squire in The Syn, was part of the lineup that recorded the group’s first two albums, 1969’s Yes and 1970’s Time and a Word. He was asked to leave the group before the release of Time and a Word and was replaced by Steve Howe.”

There were so many songs by this group that I loved! “Owner of a Lonely Heart,” specifically, was one I took to heart many years ago. “Hold On” is one that is seared into my soul for eternity.

Rest in peace, Mr. Banks…thank you so much for the musical memories.

Justice to the left of you
Justice to the right
Speak when you are spoken to
Don’t pretend you’re right
This life’s not for living
It’s for fighting and for war
No matter what the truth is
Hold on to what is yours

Jigsaw puzzle traitors
Set to spill the beans
Constitution screw up
Shattering the dreams
Blood flows in the desert
Dark citadels burning too
Watch! Look over your shoulder
This one is strictly for you

Hold on – Hold on
Wait maybe the answer’s
Looking for you

Hold on – Hold on
Wait! Take your time
Think it through
Yes! I can make it through

Hold on – Hold on
Sunshine shine on through
Hold on – Hold on
Sunshine shine on you

See it through

Talk the simple smile
Such platonic eye
How they drown in incomplete capacity
Strangest of them all
When the feeling calls
How we drown in stylistic audacity
Charge the common ground
Round and round and round
We living in gravity

Shake – We shake so hard
How we laugh so loud
When we reach
We believe in eternity

I believe in eternity

Hold on – Hold on
Wait – Take your time
See it through
Hold on – Hold on
Wait – Maybe a chance
Is looking for you

Sunshine shine on through

Sunshine shine on through
Sunshine shine on you

Hold on – Hold on
Hold on – Hold on

Sunshine – Shine on – Shine on you
Sunshine – Shine on through
Sunshine – Shine on – Shine on through
Sunshine – Shine on you

Sunshine – Shine on – Shine on you
Sunshine – Shine on through

Sunshine – Shine on – Shine on through
Sunshine – Shine on you
Hold on – Hold on
Wait – Take your time
See it through

WhiteWatch: PacNW Edition 2013

It’s been a while since I posted about the white-trash fucktards in my neck of the woods! After a bit of a lull, they’ve been actin’ up and actin’ out…so have fun with the latest insanity from the white criminals in the Pacific Northwest! On with the show…

Here’s a paedophile named Logan Storm. This former middle school teacher was found in possession of horrendous child pornography, yet was only sentenced to wearing an electronic monitor device. KGW Newschannel 8 reports:

“A former Beaverton teacher convicted of federal child pornography charges was arrested Monday after being on the run since January, according to a newspaper report.

The Oregonian reported Tuesday that 37-year-old Logan Storm was arrested in Mexico and was expected to return to the United States by Wednesday.

Storm was indicted for encouraging child sexual abuse in August of 2010, after images of child pornography were discovered on his computer, according to police.

At a January 29 hearing, a judge ordered that Storm be monitored electronically instead of being held until his April sentencing. The next day his monitoring bracelet was found at a Troutdale park.”

It’s becoming so commonplace I can’t even be shocked about it anymore…I mean, seriously – come on. Here is a predatory child-rapist who is obviously a high-risk recidivist – who in their right mind would let him walk around in public, even if he were to be gagged and bound like Hannibal Lecter? The only ‘cure’ for scum like these is a full-metal-jacket to the cranial cavity…end of fucking story!!!     👿

Next, this cretinous scumbag was released from prison on Friday, 8 March after serving several years for armed robbery. His happy grandparents threw a party for him and offered him a room in their Renton-area home for the night. KGW reports on how he repaid their kindness:

“SEATTLE — Police continue to search for a man accused of killing his grandparents, who had just picked him up after his release from a Washington state prison, hosted a party in his honor and offered him a room in their Renton home for the night.

Police say 26-year-old Michael “Chad” Boysen is considered extremely dangerous and has tried to obtain guns.

Boysen was released from prison Friday after serving several years for robbery. King County Sheriff John Urquhart says Boysen’s grandparents — an 82-year-old man and 80-year-old woman — picked him up from prison and hosted a family “welcome home party” for him that night.

The couple was killed later Friday or early Saturday at their Renton home. Friends of the victims have identified them as Robert and Norma Taylor.”

As of today, he was apprehended and hospitalised after a day-long standoff in Lincoln City, Oregon – we’ll see how long he stays jailed! He will supposedly be extradited back to the state of Washington once he’s released from the hospital, but since he’s white he’ll only get a slap on the wrist…maybe even an ankle monitor, eh? Ye GAWDS…I mean, seriously – the comments of some people being interviewed were as intelligent as the one that went “THIS isn’t THAT sort of neighbourhood!” One asshat in Renton basically stated that they were glad that Michael had left the area and that he was basically “someone else’s problem.” On top of that, all they said about the murderer was that he was “sick and in need of help.” Gee…how WHITE of you to say that!!! I doubt that you were that gracious when Aaron Campbell was shot in the back by Portland Police…no, someone like you would say he deserved it, even though he was a bereaved young man who wasn’t quite in his right mind following the deaths of his mother and brother in a week’s time. Such is the racist view, and such is the cushion allotted by the privilege of white skin.

This fucked-up moron thought it would be a grand idea to unload a can of Mace in a Safeway store on Wednesday, 6 March, with no thought for her fellow shoppers who might have respiratory issues. KGW has the story here:

“ST. HELENS, Ore. — Two people were arrested Monday in connection with the HazMat emergency that left 31 customers sickened and shut down a Safeway store in St. Helens last week.

Investigators believe the suspects intentionally sprayed Mace inside the grocery store.

About 100 people were evacuated from the store after several people started coughing and complaining that their throats hurt.  Investigators said 31 victims had to get medical treatment at the scene and one patient was transported to a local hospital.”

Stupid little girl must have forgotten that she ceased being a minor, in the eyes of the law, the day she turned 18 years of age…too bad, so sad!     🙄

Here’s an interesting end to a strange story that began in December of last year. Aaron Griffin of Beaverton, Oregon, violently attacked his estranged wife at a Shilo Inn, but a passerby intervened and halted the assault. More from KGW:

“CORBETT, Ore. — A man whose body was discovered inside a car in a Columbia Gorge ravine off Crown Point was the suspect in a vicious December attack on his estranged wife in a Shilo Inn motel, police said.

He was identified Monday as Aaron Bryce-Dolve Griffin, 34, of Hillsboro.

Griffin’s body was discovered inside a wrecked vehicle at the bottom of a ravine near Crown Point.”

The number of white criminals walking around free is staggering – yet, non-whites in general, and Black people almost exclusively, are blamed for every crime that occurs in this country! It’s so fucking tiresome…

Here’s another genius – she thought it would be hilarious if she let her 22-month-old child inhale marijuana smoke from her bong while taking a video of the whole thing! I guess some people will stoop to anything to drive traffic to their respective blogs, vlogs, and twitterpated tripe!

Finally, the winner of the week: one Scott Fandrich, who stabbed a man in the chest and stomach, in broad daylight! More of the story from KGW:

“Police were called just before 5 p.m. to the report of a stabbing at 11502 Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard, said Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp. A woman told police she heard someone scream, “he’s got a knife,” as two men struggled in the parking lot of the Starbucks.

Bystanders detained a suspect, later identified as 55-year-old Scott C. Fandrich.

Seeing he had a knife, the crowd backed off until one person grabbed a shovel and was able to hold Fandrich at bay until police arrived, according to police reports.

Police said 71-year-old Jerry Kush was stabbed five times in the neck and abdomen, he was taken in for surgery. Another man, 49-year-old Jerry Nehnevaj, was stabbed in the leg, he was treated and released.”

The moon wasn’t full on Monday, so I guess there’s been an uptick in the local use of methamphetamine and bath salts!

Some Random Sunday Ramblings…

Aaaahhh…relaxing here on a quiet Sunday, listening to some music, sorting some books, and drinking coffee – I will switch over to tea in the afternoon. I decided to take a break and have a light lunch, then I’ll get back to looking through more boxes of books! For now, enjoy some interesting stuff I found whilst surfing the ‘webs.

First off, an article from Al-Jazeera about how Palestinian men and boys have been killed while attempting to get necessary goods such as food and medical supplies to people in the heavily-blockaded area:

“Gaza Strip – Gazans are crying foul after Egypt stepped up its campaign to wipe out an underground network of transportation tunnels by blasting raw sewage down them, sometimes with deadly results for Palestinian workers.

Some 2,000 men and boys work in the tunnel trade in the Gaza Strip. But over the past three months, more than 80 percent have lost the only work and benefits available in besieged Gaza, which remains stuck in an Israeli blockade.

That occurred after the government of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi ordered the destruction of the underground transportation network. As part of that effort, the military began dumping raw sewage into the passageways.

It’s the most serious – and arguably the most dangerous – attempt by Egypt to close down the tunnels since 2006, when Palestinians began digging the warrens after Israel sealed off its borders with Gaza following Hamas’ election victory.

An estimated 30 percent of goods that reach Gaza’s 1.7 million Palestinians come through the tunnels….

Israel’s air, sea and land blockade of Gaza has led to a booming tunnel excavation business that supplies basic food staples, medicine, and even cars to cut-off Palestinians.

Amer, who gave only one name as he feared reprisals for talking about the issue, sits against the wheel of a truck parked on the border area, waiting for a shipment to turn up. Every morning he comes from the north of Gaza to the south in search of work. He has been waiting for eight hours in vain, and is ready to return home empty-handed.

The owner of the tunnel where Amer works says it was destroyed by sewage pumped in by the Egyptian military.

For the past month Amer, 22, had mostly been hauling gravel, which like all construction materials is denied entry into Gaza by the Israeli government.

In the past, he could earn $26 per day, which helped feed his family and pay part of the school tuition for his two brothers.

When asked what he plans to do with work opportunities dried up, he looks frustrated. “I don’t know. This was the only way I could earn living and put food on the table for my brothers and mom. It may take some time to find another way,” says Amer.”

An opinion piece discusses the cognitive dissonance evident in the ‘leaders’ and members of the National Rifle Association (NRA):

“When the NRA finally broke its silence one week after the massacre of children in Newtown, its searing screed blasting everyone else for the carnage, and blaming everything but guns should have surprised no one.

Its proposed “solution” – protecting schools with armed guards – is ludicrously misguided in multiple ways, not least by the simple fact that Columbine High School was protected by two armed guards, to no avail, not to mention the statistical record, highlighted in a report from the Children’s Defense Fund, which shows that “the 5,740 children and teens killed by guns in 2008 and 2009 would fill more than 229 public school classrooms of 25 students each” – a rate of more than two Newtown massacres a week.

But if we want get to the core of the NRA’s madness, it helps enormously to consider its warped worldview on the one hand – where “the only way to stop a bad man with a gun is a good man with a gun” – and its complete misunderstanding of rights on the other hand. The Manichean good man/bad man view of things entirely ignores the fact that the Newtown killer had apparently been a “good man” up until the massacre day. In this, he is not alone….According to NRA theology, guns are synonymous with freedom, the very basis of our democracy. But according to John Locke – whose Second Treatise lays out the philosophical foundations for government by consent of the governed – this gets things exactly backwards: It’s the inability of guns – or any other private means – to secure our freedom that establishes the foundation for our civil government, and the freedoms it secures. The NRA is not alone in its misunderstanding, of course. But they are in the vanguard of getting the basis of American freedom utterly and totally wrong.”

As a former member of the NRA I can attest to that mindset, having read their propaganda-filled ‘newsletters’ during the three years I ‘belonged’. Funny that it took them this long to get their own ‘Token Black’ spokesman, as this blog post from Davey D’s Hip-Hop Corner shows:

I found this latest ad from the NRA (National Rifle Association) featuring a Black man named Colion Noir stating that African-Americans needs guns to protect themselves to be intriguing on a number of levels.  He talks about how the government  which has a history of racism will not be there for us, hence protecting one’s family is on us..

A couple of things to think about..In the ad Colion mentions the racist government but then tells us how the proverbial hood thugs ‘Ray Ray‘ and ‘Pookie‘ got guns and that President Obama and the govt wont be there to protect us hence.. He says its best we get our guns..

To a degree some of that may be true, but lets look at the sleight of hand Noir and the NRA pulls..While many African-Americans need protection from inner city crime, they also need protection from the government that also terrorizes Black folks..

Colion Noir

Colion Noir

In the ad Noir omits and redirects an important part of history, by inferring that the racist US government allowed white supremacist groups like the KKK to come after us.. Let’s keep it real many of those folks in wearing those hoods were police and government officials.  In their height during the 1920s when Black folks were being lynched left and right, the Klan was a major force in politics…”

There is no question that we need to arm ourselves, but those who own gun stores, or sell guns at various shows and exhibitions, are white – at least, in my neck of the woods they are! Because of this, I have had a couple of unpleasant experiences when I went to purchase guns about five years ago. On top of that, the craziness that has exploded because inbred, white-trash fucktards are afraid that “Obama’s comin’ fer our guns!” is being directed at Black people who may desire a firearm or two for personal protection. White fears of armed Black citizens create an atmosphere where discrimination can again run rampant. For instance, I have cause to suspect that the so-called ‘background checks’ being required of all who wish to buy guns are only being used very selectively – and they are used to prevent non-whites in general, and Black people specifically, from legally obtaining firearms. Do some research about the Brady Bill. Look up the restrictions which guarantee the ineffectiveness of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms (ATF). In short, don’t believe the hype or the pandering of the NRA and other like groups, simply because they have a Black talking-head!

I’ll end with a trio of relaxing songs…enjoy!

Notable Passings: Week in Review

Wow – what a week! I simply couldn’t keep up with the recent deaths of some notable people; too much going on and not enough time to do it in. I’m nearly finished with the tedious process of updating old links, fixing broken ones, and updating pictures that have “blanked out” on my blog, so to speak. Also, what with losing an hour as most of us in the U.S. ‘Spring Forward’ on Sunday, 10 March, there will be even less of that precious commodity we call “time” to spare! Millennials are ignorant of the fact that the observation of ‘Daylight Saving Time’ occurs earlier in the year than it used to; conversely, we ‘Fall Back’ later. It used to be from April – October…now it’s from March – November. Not only that, North Korea grew some bollocks and went apeshit with self-importance after a visit by one Dennis ‘the Worm’ Rodman, who is a self-important has-been who lost any sort of credibility when he fucked Madonna, caught a terrible disease, and decided to marry himself! I always figured he hated Black women because he will never be able to be one…case in point in the picture below!

Digressing…below are the top three notable deaths this past week.

Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías: 28 July 1954 – 5 March 2013

The President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, was laid to rest today. He passed away at the age of 58 on Tuesday, 5 March after a 2-year-long bout with cancer. His health took a turn for the worse following surgery related to his cancer treatments and he contracted a severe respiratory infection. From the BBC:

“Venezuelans have paid an emotional farewell to the late President Hugo Chavez at his state funeral in Caracas.

Vice-President Nicolas Maduro told mourners Mr Chavez, who led Venezuela for 14 years, remained “undefeated, pure, living for all time”.

Mr Maduro was due to be sworn in as acting president later on Friday. He has to call elections within 30 days.

Opposition leader Henrique Capriles condemned Mr Maduro’s imminent inauguration as “fraudulent”.

He said that “nobody elected” Maduro president and that the government was “abusing” its powers.

Opposition parties are boycotting Mr Maduro’s swearing-in, arguing that under the constitution the speaker of the National Assembly should be the one to take over as acting president.

But, in a decision made public as the funeral went ahead, Venezuela’s Supreme Court ruled in Mr Maduro’s favour.”

He was much-maligned by the U.S. government for many reasons, the main ones being his political views – he was a staunch Socialist and Communist. From Wikipedia:

He was formerly the leader of the Fifth Republic Movement political party from its foundation in 1997 until 2007, when it merged with several other parties to form the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), which he led until his death.

Following his own political ideology of Bolivarianism and “socialism of the 21st century“, he focused on implementing socialist reforms in the country as a part of a social project known as the Bolivarian Revolution, which has seen the implementation of a new constitution, participatory democratic councils, the nationalization of several key industries, increased government funding of health care and education, and significant reductions in poverty, according to government figures.[1] Under Chavez, Venezuelans’ quality of life improved according to a UN Index[2] and the poverty rate fell from 48.6 percent in 2002 to 29.5 percent in 2011, according to the U.N. Economic Commission for Latin America.[2]

Born into a working-class family in Sabaneta, Barinas, Chávez became a career military officer, and after becoming dissatisfied with the Venezuelan political system, he founded the secretive Revolutionary Bolivarian Movement-200 (MBR-200) in the early 1980s to work towards overthrowing it. Chávez led the MBR-200 in an unsuccessful coup d’état against the Democratic Action government of President Carlos Andrés Pérez in 1992, for which he was imprisoned. Released from prison after two years, he founded a social democratic political party, the Fifth Republic Movement, and was elected president of Venezuela in 1998.

He subsequently introduced a new constitution which increased rights for marginalized groups and altered the structure of Venezuelan government, and was re-elected in 2000. During his second presidential term, he introduced a system of Bolivarian Missions, Communal Councils and worker-managed cooperatives, as well as a program of land reform, whilst also nationalizing various key industries. He was re-elected in 2006 with over 60% of the vote. On 7 October 2012, Chávez won his country’s presidential election for a fourth time, defeating Henrique Capriles, and was elected for another six-year term.[3]

Allying himself strongly with the Communist governments of Fidel and then Raúl Castro in Cuba and the Socialist governments of Evo Morales in Bolivia, Rafael Correa in Ecuador, and Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua, his presidency was seen as a part of the socialist “pink tide” sweeping Latin America. Along with these governments, Chávez described his policies as anti-imperialist, being a prominent adversary of the United States’ foreign policy as well as a vocal critic of U.S.-supported neoliberalism and laissez-faire capitalism.[4]

He supported Latin American and Caribbean cooperation and was instrumental in setting up the pan-regional Union of South American Nations, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas, the Bank of the South, and the regional television network TeleSur. However, Chavez had extensive disputes with Colombia, and supported rebels in Colombia and Ecuador, causing ambassadors to be recalled and troops to be mobilized. Chávez was a highly controversial and divisive figure both at home and abroad, having insulted other world leaders and compared U.S. president George W. Bush to a donkey,[5] and called him the devil.”

Rest in peace, brother Chavez. My words can’t express the genuine sadness I feel at your passing – you weren’t the demon that many accused you of being.

Alvin Lee: 19 December 1944 – 6 March 2013

The founder and lead guitarist of the band Ten Years After died following what was called a ‘routine surgical procedure’ at the age of 68. He and his band shot to fame after performing an 11-minute rendition of “I’m Going Home” at Woodstock in 1968. From the BBC:

“His family announced on his official website that he unexpectedly died on 6 March following complications during routine surgery.

The Nottingham-born musician rose to fame after appearing at the Woodstock festival in 1969.

The band, who had eight Top 40 albums in the UK, had their biggest hit in 1971 with I’d Love To Change the World.

“We have lost a wonderful and much loved father and companion, the world has lost a truly great and gifted musician,” said the statement from his wife and daughters.

Lee worked with The Beatles’ George Harrison, Steve Winwood, Ronnie Wood and Mick Fleetwood on his first solo album, On the Road to Freedom, in 1973.

He released his 14th record, Still on the Road to Freedom, in August last year.

He was due to play a concert at Olympia Hall in Paris on 7 April with blues guitarist Johnny Winter.”

Rest in peace, good sir – your talent joins all who have gone before…

William Alvin “Bill” Moody / ‘Paul Bearer’ / Percival Pringle III: 10 April 1954 – 5 March 2013

A name I recall fondly from my “teens-ages” up through my mid-20s passed away on Tuesday, 5 March at the age of 58: “Paul Bearer”, best known as the manager and sidekick of one of my favorite old-school “rasslers,” The Undertaker. I took my son to at least three matches when we lived in Seattle – we had some good times! More on that in a moment…

First, a bit about Bill Moody:

“He entered the wrestling business in his teenage years as a ringside photographer. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving four years on duty; during this time, he often wrestled for Indian Coast independent promotions during off-duty hours. In 1979, he began managing as Percival “Percy” Pringle, III in southeastern independent promotions. There had been previous Percy Pringles in wrestling who were not William Moody. Immediately after his first son’s birth, he cut back his involvement in the wrestling business in order to obtain a degree in mortuary science and earn certification as an embalmer and mortician.

In 1984, he resumed full-time involvement in the wrestling business, using his Pringle character in Florida Championship Wrestling, World Class Championship Wrestling in Texas, and the United States Wrestling Association (a successor to WCCW). During this time, he served as manager for numerous wrestlers; he notably managed Rick Rude, “Stunning” Steve Austin, and Mark Calaway in their early careers.[1] As Percy Pringle, he was also associated with the careers of Lex Luger, Eric Embry, and The Ultimate Warrior.

World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment (1990–2002)

He joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in December 1990, after being mentioned by Rick Rude to WWF owner Vince McMahon. McMahon used Moody’s real-life involvement in the funeral industry to create the character of Paul Bearer (a play on pallbearer), a very histrionic, ghostly manager, who was almost always seen bearing an urn (which led to several storylines involving wrestlers stealing his urn), and whose catch phrase was “Ohhh yyyes!” The Undertaker was his only protege to make use of his urn, being able to draw mystical power from it that could revive his strength during matches, sparking up the phrase, “The power of the urn.” While Bearer managed Mankind, Mankind had a tendency to hug up against his urn while rocking back and forth.

Paul Bearer holding his urn in 1996.

Moody made his first appearance in February 1991 when Brother Love, who originally managed The Undertaker, passed him on to be managed by Paul Bearer. Paul Bearer took on a spookier, ghastlier character as time went on and referred to The Undertaker as “My Undertaker.” Moody played the character for over thirteen years. As Undertaker’s manager, as a heel and later a face for over five years, he was a mentor to The Undertaker, playing a major role in his entrances by guiding him to the ring, undoing his tie, and collecting his trench coat and hat. Bearer also hosted the WWF talk show segment entitled The Funeral Parlor, which included memorable segments such as the Ultimate Warrior being locked inside a casket, among others. Eventually Bearer turned heel again by betraying his long-time protege at SummerSlam 1996 to align himself with The Undertaker’s arch-enemy, Mankind. While managing Mankind, his new protégé always referred to him as “Uncle Paul.” During this time, Bearer would also enlist the services of The Executioner and Vader to do battle against The Undertaker.

In April 1997 at In Your House Revenge of the Taker, The Undertaker set Bearer’s face ablaze using a fireball. As a result, Bearer’s head was bandaged for a time before changing his looks, shedding the makeup of ghostly pallor and jet-black hair to his natural brown hair and less make-up. No longer using his ghostly appearance and mannerisms, he became loudmouthed and shrill. Around mid 1997, Paul Bearer blackmailed The Undertaker (WWF Champion at the time) into being his protégé again by threatening to reveal a deep, dark secret involving him, often making references to “The fires of Hell.” Feeling he had no choice, The Undertaker eventually accepted after several weeks of resistance. While “managing” Undertaker this time around, Bearer engaged in tyrannical behaviors towards him, harassing and nagging at him constantly. Eventually, Undertaker lost his patience and refused to allow Bearer to continue being his manager, leading Bearer to reveal the secret.”

I had gotten out of wrestling completely by that point – one, my son ‘outgrew’ it for the first time (he’s an on-and-offer now) so had no interest in watching it or going to matches, and I was getting tired of how stupid it was getting – the women all started becoming fake, plastic sluts who were simply there for the T & A factor! I remember what that she-male ‘Chyna’ looked like when she first appeared on the scene as the bodyguard of the “Connecticut Blueblood” Hunter Hearst Helmsley, who later became Triple-H. Once his (and her) fame was ensured Chyna got breast implants, facial reconstruction, and dyed her hair blonde…just like any other talentless white-trash cooze who needs to jump-start a career that never was!

Yes, I slam what rasslin’ has become, much like I’m disappointed in how hip-hop morphed from something meaningful and positive into the degrading, modern-day “minstrel show” it warped into. Finding good hip-hop, R & B, or reggae like the old masters performed is a task! Digressing – this post isn’t about music; it’s about the entertaining, goofy, phony, fun spectacle that used to be the World Wrestling Federation. I was first introduced to it when I was eight, and loosely followed some of the big names off and on for ten years – my favourites included the Junkyard Dog  (he had ‘THUMP’ across the back of his tight, little shorts – WOOF WOOF!), George “The Animal” Steele; Andre the Giant, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and Jesse “The Body” Ventura – this was before he became a nutjob conspiracy theorist! The ‘Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling’ (GLOW) were just getting popular, as women started getting out of Roller Derby and into the ‘squared circle’ – The Fabulous Moolah and Miss Elizabeth were two well-known females in that era. And who could forget “Captain” Lou Albano?!? He with elastics in his (facial, not buttock) cheeks! He was featured in at least two Cyndi Lauper videos, LMAO…ah, days of auld lang syne!

Fast-forwarding to 1993…my son would amaze me with his acrobatics as he imitated his heroes! I’d gotten him a “Brawler Buddies” pillow that looked like “Million Dollar Man” Fred DiBiase, so immediately after watching a Saturday match on television, he’d start thrashing on ol’ Freddy – I have a number of pictures of him in midair, doing a hands-free sumersault and forward tumble that would have done anyone proud.     😎

We had excellent seats at one match – we were 10 rows back from ringside, and four rows away from the aisle where the wrestlers made their way to the arena – we saw some people up close and personal, including The Undertaker (another Aries!), Luna Vachon, The Bushwhackers, Bam Bam Bigelow, Tatanka, Papa Shango, and Sgt. Slaughter! What a kick in the pants…my son loved to impersonate many of the wrestlers, and when he twisted his face up and said “Oh yeeeeesssss…” like Paul Bearer I would die with laughter!

Rest in peace, Mr. Moody – you brought a smile to the face of this fellow Aries and her prodigy! We will never forget you.

Oh…looks like today is International Women’s Day – so, where’s my medal for having boobs, a vajayjay, a uterus, two X chromosomes and bleeding every month?!? Yeah, right…my arse! Apparently the only females who rate any mention in the news are three talentless sluts: Danica Patrick, Kate Upton, and Danielle Fishel. I decided to link to stories of some notable women who go unnoticed because we don’t want to drop our tops at the drop of a dime! There are many women who didn’t take the easy way to the top, but we go unrecognized and unappreciated. C’est la vie

Finally, three songs…enjoy, and have a great weekend! The sun has come out and will remain all weekend…time to ride!

In Memoriam: Miriam Makeba

Miriam “Mama Africa” Makeba: 4 March 1932 – 9 November 2008

Today marks the birth anniversary of a legendary woman, Miriam Makeba. She was a South African singer who won Grammy awards for her music, and a respected and well-known political and civil rights activist who had her citizenship revoked, but became a citizen of the world. She would have been 81 years of age. From Wikipedia:

In the 1960s she was the first artist from Africa to popularize African music in the U.S. and around the world. She is best known for the song “Pata Pata“, first recorded in 1957 and released in the U.S. in 1967. She recorded and toured with many popular artists, such as Harry Belafonte, Paul Simon, and her former husband Hugh Masekela.

Makeba campaigned against the South African system of apartheid. The South African government responded by revoking her passport in 1960 and her citizenship and right of return in 1963. As the apartheid system crumbled she returned home for the first time in 1990.

Makeba died of a heart attack on 9 November 2008 after performing in a concert in Italy organized to support writer Roberto Saviano in his stand against the Camorra, a mafia-like organization local to the region of Campania.

Zenzile Miriam Makeba was born in Johannesburg on 4 March 1932. Her mother was a Swazi sangoma (traditional healer-herbalist). Her father, who died when she was six years old, was a Xhosa. When she was eighteen days old, her mother was arrested for selling umqombothi, an African homemade beer brewed from malt and cornmeal. Her mother was sentenced to a six-month prison term, so Miriam spent her first six months of life in jail.[2][3] As a child, she sang in the choir of the Kilmerton Training Institute in Pretoria, a primary school that she attended for eight years.[4][5]

In 1950 at the age of eighteen, Makeba gave birth to her only child, Bongi Makeba, whose father was Makeba’s first husband James Kubay.[6] Makeba was then diagnosed with breast cancer, and her husband left her shortly afterwards.[7]

Her professional career began in the 1950s when she was featured in the South African jazz group the Manhattan Brothers, and appeared for the first time on a poster. She left the Manhattan Brothers to record with her all-woman group, The Skylarks,[8] singing a blend of jazz and traditional melodies of South Africa.[2] As early as 1956, she released the single “Pata Pata“,[5] which was played on all the radio stations and made her name known throughout South Africa.”

I absolutely love her music! That’s one thing I can thank my captors for; they did not deny me much reading material, and all music was welcome, although some genres were less welcome and tolerated than others. I’ve been exposed to all sorts of music from childhood; I can’t think of too many others in the USA who know the “Kookaburra” song! Below are some of my favourite songs by ‘Mama Africa’ – such a beautiful, talented, legendary lady who I’m happy to list as a “Notable Black Woman!”

R.I.P., Bobby Rogers

Bobby Rogers: 19 February 1940 – 3 March 2013

Another phenomenal singer has passed away. Bobby Rogers, co-founder of The Miracles, died on Sunday, 3 March, at the age of 73. The BBC reports:

“Bobby Rogers, a founding member of the Motown group The Miracles along with Smokey Robinson, has died in the US aged 73.

The singer, who had been ill for several years, died at his home in Detroit on Sunday.

“Another soldier in my life has fallen. [He] was my brother and a really good friend”, Robinson said in a statement.

Rogers formed The Miracles in 1956 with cousin Claudette Rogers, Pete Moore, Ronnie White and Robinson.

Their hits included The Tracks of My Tears, Shop Around, You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me and I Second That Emotion.

“People always commented on the tall one with the glasses,” said Claudette Rogers.

“He was personable, approachable and he loved talking to the women, loved talking to the guys, loved to dance, loved to sing, loved to perform. That was the joy of his life.”

Marvin Gaye

Rogers’ voice can be heard on Marvin Gaye’s hit What’s Going On, with Rogers saying: “It’s just a groovy party, man, I can dig it.”

I love so many of their songs, and it’s nice to remember the days when musicians collaborated with each other more often, with no egos and other nonsense getting in the way. People used to have honor!

Rest in peace, good brotha – your voice and talent join that grand, celestial choir. Here are my three favorite songs by The Miracles…enjoy.

First Friday – March Musings

Aaaahh…it’s Friday, March 1st – a true First Friday! An engineering firm that I worked for in Seattle used to have a fun after-work gathering on First Fridays. Anyway, time for a few more random ramblings and myriad musings!

My dreadlocks are getting long and lovely! I had some touch-up maintenance done on them yesterday and they look grand…they are longer than what you see on the model above; they brush my shoulders and hang out from under the back of my motorcycle helmet when I go for a ride…I’m loving them! I seriously should have started them back when I was modeling, but better late than never. I had a slight epiphany over why I wore extensions for so long: People didn’t ask to touch my hair when I had them in!

My ‘locs closely resemble Debra Wilson’s, if you take a look at her picture below. Hers are longer than mine, but that’s essentially how they’re growing…not bad, eh?

I wanted to post a belated R.I.P. to Richard Street, another member of the Temptations – he passed away at a Las Vegas hospital after short illness, according to his wife. The Huffington Post reports:

“Former Motown vocalist Richard Street, a member of the Temptations for 25 years, has died. He was 70…Richard Street sang as a young man with Temptations members Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin, but didn’t join the famed Motown group until the early 1970s. He later made the move from his native Detroit to Los Angeles with other Motown acts and stayed with the group until the mid-1990s.”

He joins his fellow Temptations member Damon Harris, who passed away on 18 February. They are dancing together in that music hall in the hereafter…rock on, brothas…rock on.

Richard Street: 5 October 1942 – 27 February 2013

Also, noted pianist Van Cliburn passed away at the age of 78 on 27 February. The lanky Texan, at the age of 23, took the world by storm in 1958 after winning the first International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. The L.A. Times reports:

“With his transcendent performances of Tchaikovsky’s First and Rachmaninoff’s Third piano concertos, Van Cliburn brought 1,500 Russians to their feet in a Moscow concert hall.

Declared the victor of the first International Tchaikovsky Competition, the young American became a hero of the Cold War era and an object of adoration around the world, whose fame helped bring classical music to the masses.

After the humiliation of Sputnik, Americans declared a cultural victory with Cliburn. Dubbed the “American Sputnik,” he was feted like no other classical musician before him, with a ticker-tape parade in New York City and fan clubs to rival a movie idol’s.

Cliburn, whose breakthrough success in 1958 made him one of the world’s most celebrated pianists, died Wednesday of bone cancer at his Forth Worth home, said his publicist, Mary Lou Falcone. He was 78.”

Rest in peace, gentle soul – you join the many.

Harvey Lavan “Van” Cliburn: 12 July 1934 – 27 February 2013

Here’s an interesting article on The Stream, from Al-Jazeera’s website, talking about “the N-word” and the continued debate over its use. Personally, I can’t stand the word – it was directed at me far too often for me to feel that it’s any sort of endearing term – but I’m also not going to shrivel up and die if others choose to use it. People glorified and justified its use for far too long, and even pay money to hear it used ad nauseum in movies – so trying to close the barn door after the horses have escaped is a bit futile! In fact, two of the songs I’m planning on posting have that horrid word in it, just for shits and giggles!

Ye gawds…just saw this story on Davey D’s Hip-Hop corner and am SMDH over it – well, I already knew that the end was near when Honey Boo Boo became the most ‘redneckonised’ person in AmeriKKKa! Wow…just – WOW.

The First Lady is getting a bunch of shit because she appeared at the Oscars – no surprise there. I love how her detractors rip on her over non-issues like her bangs, her figure, or her desire to have children not be fat, sloppy diabetics. People conveniently forget the fact that Laura Bush killed a man with her car, and that her darling daughters were sleazy CUNTS who put the ‘Girls Gone Wild’ bunch to shame! Selective, phony outrage is so pathetic…

Here are a couple of hilarious clips! First, Key & Peele show what happens when people try to be “Blacker than thou” – I see that nonsense on the interwebs daily; WTF is up with that?

Key & Peele: “Soul Food

Then, they find out why we, as Black people, CANNOT EVER do anything ‘fun’ like flash-mobbing!

Key & Peele: “Flash Mob

Honorable mention goes to the “Bald Brotherhood” skit, which I cannot find ANYWHERE – if you’ve been lucky enough to view it, you know what I’m talking about!

Next, Conan O’Brien talks about a firehouse masturbator – who apparently found himself in the audience!

Then, Conan reviews the new version of an old game that is being introduced (yet AGAIN) because someone thinks that the Tomb Raider franchise needs a boost! I guess that skeletal slag, Angelina Jolie, needs another adventure movie to star in? Go figure…anyway, watching Conan ‘perv out’ is fucking hilarious!

On that note, on with the tunes! Enjoy, and have an awesome weekend!     😎
